How can a city government dictate (ha a pun) you MUST manufacture and sell something you don't want to?

FOXNews.com - Indianapolis Bakery Declines Order for Rainbow Cupcakes, Sparking City Inquiry

Now before the anti-gay crowd flocks in and says "Good for them, no cupcake for the Homo's because gays are icky and don't deserve cupcakes!" Let me say STHU, heard it all before so save it. Gays and lesbians have a right to enjoy a cupcake. Suppose some Muslim bakery wouldn't sell Baja a poppy seed muffin because of his avitar?

and before the pro-gay people come in and say "What an outrage, gays like cupcakes too, maybe even more than straights! You cannot discriminate!" What if you owned a printing business and the local neo-nazi group wanted to you to print posters of their manifesto and swastika's to put up for a march in town they are planning. Are you allowed to say "Pack sand Hanz, I wont be printing your hate on my press!"

and to those who are going to say "I can't believe you are comparing rainbow gay cupcakes to a neo-nazi poster.......STHU, it is not the point. the point is as a business owner, do the old signs we used to see next to the "no shoes, no shirt, no service" sings that said "We reserve the right to serve anyone!" still apply?

They should.

After reading your post, I believe that's the only answer that wasn't headed off at the pass.

"Rainbow cupcakes are simply a tasty way to celebrate values of diversity and acceptance,"

:lmao:

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that this group found out that the baker wasn't into no hummerseckshuls and placed the order with him just to out him as Satan and cause a stir. Unless Indianapolis only has one bakery, and THAT would be cause to burn that whole city to the ground.

It's a F@k!*NG cupcake for christ sakes! When did homosexuals get the © on freaking rainbows?!? Do I have to pay a licensing fee for all the rainbow pictures I have taken over the years? Will I be subject to a raid from the FBI because I didn't get "express written consent" from whomever is in charge?

I have to ask "Why did these buggers expect a store called JUST COOKIES to make gay cupcakes?"

I might have taken the order and placed a big brown asterisk (*) in the center of each of 'em.

It all about equal rights. Sorry, they have to make those cupcakes for the cupcakes. The bakery could just institute a DADT program and there would be no problem here. Guess what is coming next? Wedding cakes.

It's their business if they choose not to make them that's their business. Who cares, seriously I am sick and tired of having gay gay gay crap shoved in my face. I could care less where they sitck their ding dong and who's rug they munch that's their business. Why should I as a straight person be subjected to and have "divesity" and accept me because I'm gay brought up all the time. I don't go around wearing a shirt that says I'm heterosexual accept me now do I? No. Why? Because what I do in the privacy of my home is my business. I have a gay friend and I accept her and her choice but it IS an alternative lifestyle to the mainsstream heterosexual society. I DON"T have to like or support it and I don't think that bakery should be told to make cupcakes for a gay group if it doesn't want to. Just my 2 cents.

why so serious
My take on this is it is just like refusing to serve blacks at the lunch counter (or any other establishment) back in the day. I'm not sure from the article how they identified the group that wanted the cupcakes as gay, was it that they wanted rainbows or was it something else? Because I don't see how not making rainbow cupcakes has anything to do with being anti-family establishment...
