Getting daughter's ears pierced - where?

Hi! I'm not sure where to post this so feel free to move it if need be.

Our 12-year-old daughter wants to get her ears pierced. We just aren't sure where to go to have it done locally. I know there are lots of tattoo/piercing places in the area, but am not sure that type of environment would be good to take her to. Some of the "samples" hanging on the wall could be pretty raunchy. Also I don't know how regulated these places are. Do doctors do ear piercings anymore? They did mine when I was a kid, but that was a looooong time ago. lol

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

My daughter wanted a triple piercing for her 16th b-day... I took her to Ink Wizard and was really really impressed with how clean it was and how the technician treated it as a sterile, surgical procedure...:yay: :yay: :yay: If you think about it, it makes complete sense a tattoo and piercing parlor would be the perfect place to do it because that is their entire livelyhood. They would not last if they didn't do a clean and proper job in a clean and sterile environment.

I understand your reservations, but I would recommend the tattoo/piercing shop for two reasons. One, they practice complete anaseptic techniques. Two, they don't use thick posts that mutilate the tissue which requires longer healing and after care.

My daughter got her ears pierced at a local jewelry store. The pierce was done crooked, which caused her healing problems and pain that could have otherwise been avoided.

Depends on what she wants done.... any cartlige piercing should be done with a needle.. not a gun!!

most tatt places will not pierce anyone under 16..even with parental permission, so call before you go.

truthfully, walmart would be perfectly fine for ear lobe piercing. I am not usually a fan of the gun, but they are designed and only appropriate for lobe piercings. doing it with a needle via a piercing place results in a little less tissue trauma, but has to be done one at a time. the gun is really fastest and both ears can be done at once. easy peasy and stress the importance of aftercare. I love piercings and take them very, very seriously and I had my second lobe piercings done at clairs in the mall. with appropriate aftercare the chances of issues are quite slim.

WAY back in the day when cartlige piercing started to become popular... i had two done by a gun within a few days.... the damage done to the cartlige was bad and ended up swelling up and ended up at the ER for them to pull the earrings thru the back of my ear to get them out :jameo: :faint:

the gun shatters the cartlige... needle removes it :yay:

Oh yeah... the secondary bonus of taking daughter to a tattoo parlor for her piercings was because it happened while her older, over-protective brother was away at school out-of-state and I was able to txt him "Just took your sis to Ink Wizard for her 16th b-day prez... wait til U C!"

Yeah, Those guns they use are terrible and hurt like a mofo. The needles they use at a tatto shop are MUCH less painful!

Red Octopus. It's very clean and the people are great. My youngest daughter had her ears pierced there when she was about 5. My oldest had her belly button pierced about a year ago, and she is a big chicken and got through it fine. Two of my kids have been tattooed there and they have never had any problems with infections, etc. I would highly recommned them.

I've had some done a Wal-Mart, and they did a perfect job. I've also had some done at Red Octopus, and they did a great job. I went to the one in Prince Frederick. It was very clean, and the Staff was professional. My Daughter got her's done the first time, at her Pediatrician's Office.

Surely you jest ...
In these times, I think I would ask her Dr. ..if he/she doesn't do it, I'm sure they have a safe recommendation.
