Going on the 5th month now... supposedly they have a new CMTS, but also found out they needed new Fiber lines and basically a MASSIVE hardware overhaul/upgrade.

New ETA to complete... at the earliest last week in April...

Why don't you ...

1) Call the Franchise Authority
or
2) Cancel the service

I called the BBB ..... how would I find the number for the Francise Authority?

Canceling the service is not an option being as Metrocrap is the only Broad Band provider choice I have. I did threaten back in March to cancel my service because they would not even give me a partial refund/credit..the lady at the other end of the line said "Go ahead, and when you want to reconnect we will charge you all the reconnect fees, your choice."...Nice customer service eh... :smack:

Franchise Authority is the St. Mary's County Board of Commissioners.

Ok update....

I said I would post if/when Metrocast fixed the issue...and it looks like they finally did.

After 4 months of crap speeds...I have now had 5 days of 3.34 KB/s down speeds (out of 4 KB/s). Still not happy with the 660 kb/s overhead loss (should be closer to 3.6 KB/s) but it IS MUCH better than it has been.

I hate to do this but after 3 months of CRAP speeds, I find no other recourse. This is a warning to those moving to the area, as well as those considering switching from DSL to Metrocast Broadband.

Started out good with Small Business account with GMP express. 4,000 kb/s down, 1,0000 kb/s up. Had it over 2 years with NO problems.

About 3 months after Metrocast bought out GMP my speeds dropped to 250 kb/s down, 1,0000 kb/s up (sad when Upload is faster than down) with 33-67% packet loss.

Called the corporate Metrocast number (up in Philly, I live in Md).... tech support there totally useless. Luckily they still have my local people here, and I had the old Small Business servcie number.

Got a hold of the rep right away (god I miss GMP)... and she told me they have overloaded the CMTS and one was being installed. Would take a week or two to fix. Im willing to give Metrocast a shot.... but Im pissed that they did NOT tell the customer they were experiencing problems. Problems that started late Jan...and its now March and problem still not fixed.

I fail to understand how a Cable co. can NOT know they are overloading thier systems...but continue to add subscribers to the detriment of exsisting PAYING customers.

Oh and with GMP whenever I had a problem...they had a tech out the SAME DAY (if you had the small business account)...Metrocast says I have to make an appointment like eveyone else.... pfft.

Metro...Pull your head out of your behinds and see your one of the WORST Broadband ISPs rated on Broadband Reports.com ..... your loosing customers, especially those that can go with DSL (which I would if it was offered in my area).

Click this little link Broadband Ratings and scroll down to the cable providers..to see how Metrocast stacks up to other cable Companies. They are next from the bottom of the cable list!

Example: this is at 6:39pm on a Wed.

Dancing Up A Storm
Since joining with Verizon DSL last Sept., I've enjoyed internet services at the full T1 speeds - anywhere from 2.3 to 2.9 megs download speeds and 500 to 768 kps uploads.

I can't complain, especially comparing those to dial-up speeds.

It's never gone out, and best of all, I don't get any spam/junk mail that I haven't asked for.

Just a post to bump this to the top... it seems those of us along Rt 235 from the Greenbriar Subdivision SOUTH are STILL HAVING CRAP for speeds during peak times (at least 2-4 days a week). This has been ON GOING since DECEMBER 2005- Jan 2006!

Its not my wiring or anything I have ....I can say this for two reasons:

1) Anyother time other than peak times (7pm - 2 am EST) I can get close to my 4000down/1000 up speeds. If it was my wiring or equipment it would be bad all the time.

2) I have a friend that lives in Whitehall farm (about 200 yard S of Hermanville road). We game togehter and when our gaming goes to crap, sure enough, his speeds are in the toilet also.

So.... here is my most recent speed test Monday 30 July at 9:35 pm (remember this has been ongoing for OVER 7 months now)

I also live in Greenbrier and my speeds are as follows:

772kb download
485kb upload

Sucks but better then dialup. Verizon in our area is full of sh!t, asking for 2 years about DSL, deaf ears... Last November 05, installed Metrocast cable modem and vonage VOIP and disconnected everything Verizon from my house. I can now surf, have 2 desktop computers and a laptop on my home wireless network and VOIP and never a busy signal if called by my family or friends. Could be better, but it's better than what we had for 2+ years...

How can you say Verizon sucks if you never had thier service?

Im with you though...been waiting for DSL so I can tell Metrocast to ***k off... but just because Verizon hasnt come to my area doesnt make me say they suck.

Please reread my post more slowly...

Look for the "I disconnected everything Verizon" statement!!!

I had Verizon in VA and again when I moved here to MD. My comment was not based on their overall service, but more along the lines of their excuses about why they haven't put any kind of high speed internet capability in our area "Greenbrier subdivison" for the last 2 years.

Last, my corporate cel is still Verizon...

Totally agree, if Verizon hooks up FIOS in my area, they get reconnected to my house and Metrocast gets a pink slip...

Just did a speed check (on myspeed.visualware.com) - and the results were:

2.75 megs - download

740 kbps - upload

DSL at $29.95 per month is working out for me; and no tech problems so far.
