I said once before. There is no pressing US national security interest in Ukraine. This is Europe's fight. The US doesn't need to shed blood in the Ukraine.

I want to point out that Americans said the same thing about Austria in 1938.

Ukraine needs to sit down and STFU about wanting to join NATO.

Why? That's a real question, not the prelude to an argument.

Also why does Russia want to invade Ukraine? What's in it for them? I never understand these things.

Burisma....sounds sort of familiar.....wasn't there some slight attention about some politicians son, an energy consortium and graft in the Ukraine recently? You would have thought the mass media would have mentioned it...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ No you wouldn't>^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Not our mass media. Our mass media along with the FBi, the Justice Department and the House and senate Democrats is in the bag for this simple and singularly incompetent Administration.

As it was explained just now on Sunday Morning... The Ukraine is in a position to be prosperous and have happy people. Putin, and specifically Putin, fears that the peoples of Russia will desire what the Ukraine people have, and want it for themselves, and Putin will loose his authoritative control over 'his' people. Preventing the Ukraine from prospering keeps his country passive.

That makes sense, in a weird psycho dictator sort of way.

My daughter that lived and worked in Kyiv for years, returning home just this month, really enjoyed her time there. A vibrant and very "European" city with lots of things to do.

This is sort of the strategy taken by big city democrat mayors. Keep the locals supplied with dope and food stamps. The locals aren't exactly passive, but they aren't surrounding city hall armed with maces & pitchforks either.

Putin and the Russian military do not want NATO/US troops on their border.

I told you - Biden has to wag that dog and what better way to distract us than to go to war with Russia?

Nailed it!

From the saber rattling, part of it must still be pride - just as China drools over tiny little Taiwan. They think it's theirs.
Russia always felt that Crimea was theirs and was only "given" to Ukraine in the 50's, when it was still part of the Soviet Union.
And Crimea is priceless as a warm water access to the seas.

But I'm guessing a lot of other things are a part of it. Like pipelines. A lot of theirs HAVE to go through Ukraine.
Some of it is untapped gas reserves, second largest in the world. Some of it not surprising to me - is FOOD. Ukraine is mostly flat and very good land for farming. It's not for nothing that it has the nickname "breadbasket of Europe" and food - cereal - is actually its largest export.

So it's - valuable.

What intel thinks they will do - is find a way to POLITICALLY remove those in power to one favorable to Russia - and then they will "ask" the troops to come in.

Rockets Dumb
Missles Smart..

What if I told you every rocket is a missile, and every missile that isn't thrown (I.E. has propellant) is a rocket....

(just ****ing with you, I know there are non-scientific military connotations to each word)

I heard a comment on the radio this morning. This isn't our problem, its Europe's. They should be the ones doing something, not us. They should stand on their own and not behind us waiting for the US to do something.

If that's allowed and Biden lets it, watch out for those leaders to release all the Hunter & Joe info they have. But you know our media will ignore it.

I agree with that to some extent, but there was also a news article I saw where non-involvement by the US could have a cascade effect on certain things like oil, which would increase prices here dramatically, now that we're shutting down internal production and begging for oil from overseas.
