We've had our Gateway desktop since 2003 and it's still running great - in 8 years all we've had to do was replace the fan.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop [bought in 2007] which I love but it has had a couple minor issues... Batteries go quickly, I've had to buy a new charger and also my wireless card went out. My husband has a Compaq [F700], which we bought 2 yrs. ago only because of a sale, is pure junk.
So out of all 3 brands, our Gateway has been the most solid.
