Goodbye, Chesapeake Hills clubhouse

If I may ...
If I may ...

What time were you there. The FD has been training there for the last month. During that time, they conducted search and rescue evolutions, ventilation evolutions along with hose and ladder evolutions. Saturday was the end of the training evolutions. They started at 6 AM with live burn evolutions that ending with finally letting the structure burn. You probably got there after all of the drilling/training was completed and they were letting it burn.
I stand corrected. I did not know of all the prior days to the fire being set that they were there. Nor, as to the process of starting and setting. Seems I might have been prematurely talking out my ass a bit. A rare moment of falling on my sword.

:yay:
Despite the power plays, drama and political posturing, it is a necessary service and a very worthy profession. Both volunteer and career FFs train continuously, and most of the volunteer FFs I know take their jobs very seriously.

I can understand easily. Everyone that looked upon Swann's sprawling and diverse complex figured it had to be a gold mine too. It was far from that. Fixed overhead costs were huge and relentlessly constant while income was fickle and sporadic. Bad weather on any summer weekend could mean the difference between making 10K profit that month, or losing 3K...chit like that. View attachment 137085

What is that a picture of ? That's awesome. What year?

Swanns hotel, bars, restaurant, cottages, general store and gas dock. 1996. I paid a photographer to get that for a new brochure I was having laid out at the time...wanted it done in time for the annual trade show that all my charter boat captains attended every year.

Very cool. Is there anything eft to see beside the lighthouse and park or is it all private property?

I've been meaning to get down there. Hopefully this summer

The lighthouse park and museum is definitely worth the visit. Swann's is gone now, replaced by a group of waterfront duplexes.
