I have the magellan explorist 300.... Use it for speed and tracking on my boat. Nothing more.

Eventually we will invest in a nice chartplotter GPS for our Bay trips. Now we just follow a friend who has a chart plotter, then follow our track back on our GPS.... Comes in handy at night If you dont know the water.
Like that guy that split his cigar boat in two??

BG's BIL has a NICE Lowrance, with hookups in the back for the sounder, fishfinder.. and few other connections I know nothing about. The screen displays all the info.. water depth, water temp.. location.. fish, and contour of the bottom..

Pretty much... It also helps having a person shine a spot light now and then. Those day markers can be a pain at night. (GPS track or not)

I got one for Xmas and I love it.

It has gotten me to and from quite a few places that I would have.

AND my BF decided to NOT listen to it one day because he said that he knew better and then we got lost :roflmao:

Just buy some monofilament line in 500 yard spools.

:lmao:

I have nav systems integrated in both vehicles. The old Nissan system is cd based which means limited area per disc. Additional discs are pretty pricey so we do get updated maps every few years for my car. My Honda on the other hand is dvd based and I have all of the lower 48 and some areas of Canada with that one.

Portable units for camping? Good

Vehicle units like Tom Tom? Bad. They're already obsolete now that cell phones have mapping and directions

I could not disagree with you more. I have a Tom Tom One. Paid $300 for it at Best Buy and have used it almost full time to get around the city where I live.

I'm new here, so learning all the ways around the town is taking time. We are also looking for a house, so all I have to do is look at the MLS, plug in the address and drive to the location to see if it's what we like or not. Bets dealing with a realtor until we know for sure what neighbor and part of town we want to live by.

As far as using the phone for gps goes.... Haven't tried it so I can't really knock it too much, but what if your on a call and need to be driving???? or, how about the screen size? Most phones have screen so small it tough to dial a number, let along read a map and see where you're going.

I called them and they will not move my upgrade credit to now vice September.
Did you mention that you want the Navigator capable phone? When I have upgraded in the past they were much more receptive when they saw the oppurtunity to sell extra services.

It's no different than any other phone: when it is time to drive you hang up and drive. :dur:

The phone gives audible turn by turn directions, so you don't need to stare at the screen.

I can't imagine how much fun it is to share the streets with you if your eyes are focused on a screen while you hold a phone to your ear.

I picked up the Garmin 330c at Best buy the other day for my parents. $280. They are clearing them out the new 340 is taking its place. I use my verizon phone for turn by turn directions and I have an old Garmin Rhino 120 I use for Fishing/hiking and Geocaching.

Something my ol' man taught me long ago was to turn around and look behind you once in a while as you are hiking along. The trail back will then look more familiar. A compass is also handy. GPS is great, but you should not rely solely on any one way of finding your way back. Mark your trail by bending braches pointing toward the last marker. Stuff like that.

Yes we break branches not particular way just break them..what happened is I took a Y in the trail and could not find that Y on the way back..that tree is now marked..and I got into a spot where it looked like a mini twister went through and trees down everywhere too high to jump etc..so I was like in a maze and could not get out sun was setting and I paniced..And to top it off I was on a new horse and it was his first time out (day after I got him from Missouri) so he was NO help to me..a year later if I got lost though he would take me straight to the barn.. :lmao:
