You can tell by the list that we're addicted to television. I wouldn't consider anyone in the entertainment industry for great american.

Henry Ford was a great and inventive American, but his prejudices would bar me from voting for him. He pretty much hated everybody, jeez he makes the KKK look like an EOE. :killingme

Top 100 Greatest Americans, but it's missing a few of the most influential Founding Fathers (most notably John Adams and James Madison)? I'd think they would automatically be on the list for consideration. :ohwell:

Discovery should be ashamed of themselves.

My choices out of their very questionable list would be Abraham Lincoln (#1), George W. Bush (#2), and Ronald Reagan (#3).

There are others on the list worthy of honorable mention. I hold Bill Cosby and Mel Gibson and Clint Eastwood in high regard; there are others, but I didn't copy the list for reference, and these are the names I remember seeing on the list.

I am with you on a lot of your choices.. Bill Cosby, I hold in VERY high regard.. (wish I knew a member of the marine museum needing to unload a ticket ) and Lincoln for the historical accolades and achievements.

personally in the top ten, Pat Tillman would HAVE to be on the list.. he is EVERYTHING America is about. Gave up fame and fortune, made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, for what he believed in, and felt he OWED his country, not the country owed him.. there are probably hundreds or thousands of others just like him, gave up great jobs, easy lives, to answer the call when they were needed, and gave the ultimate price to live here.. THEY are the top americans.. John Wayne?? Hillary!?? ANYONE form Hollywood, what the he!! have they done in comparison!??

Side note.. I do like listening to Bill Cosby when he speaks of American Youth and the country..

I believe that because you’re famous in the entertainment market, you shouldn't make your way onto a list of the Greatest Americans.

Marilyn Monroe??? Bret Farve?

I think the first prerequisite for being a “Great American” is being American…. Schwarzenegger…. Come on!!!

Looking at the list…. I have a good question, WHY DIDN’T O.J. MAKE THE LIST????

This certainly won't be TiVO'd at our house....

At first, when I saw John Edwards on the list, I thought it was the psychic guy. How does a minor Senator and VP loser somehow rank as one of the top 100.

Most of these people couldn't hold a candle to me and I wouldn't accept my name being listed.
