Grits: sweet or savory?

I don't like my grits with honey or anything sweet, I like them cheesy and with tasso if I'm in an area that knows what that is. There's a place here on the beach that has THE BEST cheese grits on the planet. I could eat just a big bowl of those and be happy.

Depends...first time I tried grits, I had them with honey.
Eventually, I tried them with butter, salt, & pepper...
Now I like mixing it up & depends on my mood...

In the south they will tell you never ever ever sweet. Having said that I like mine as a side with fried eggs. I like them even better with bacon, cheese and shrimp.

Years ago on a road trip to southern Texas with my parents/sibs, I remember every time we stopped for breakfast once we got south of Tennessee, grits was an automatic with every breakfast menu item. Really didn't see anything great about them, seemed kinda like cream of wheat. Haven't had grits since then.

I do love me some liver and onions, don't care if its calf liver. deer liver, chicken livers, etc..
