Ground bees

It also left a pretty big sized hole in the ground when the nest collapsed.

Same here. Those were the toughest insects I've ever had to kill. Got stung once while mowing, and didn't know where the bee came from. Got stung several more times while mowing the next week and finally figured out where the nest was. One of them caught a ride on my shoe into the house, and it required multiple smacks with a rolled-up Friday Emptyprize to end it.

I had no insecticide on hand, so I figured I'd try drowning them. Flooded the nest and turned a big patch of yard into mud. An hour later I saw bees fighting their way out of the mud and flying away. :faint: Mass amounts of the flying wasp killer directed down the hole eventually killed them or drove them off.

The welts lasted well over a week, too. One of them got me in the tender spot on the back of my knee.

NO there is no need to light the gasoline
:yay: Gas seems to be the consesus on the site I posted. I didn't know about it before, but I did remember that black flag is what killed them for me last time.
This was after arming myself with two cans of "wasp and flying insect killer" and getting them royally ticked off and chasing me back on the screen porch. By the way, throwing the empty can at them doesn't work very well either. :lmao:

Ever have an encounter with them? I've pissed them off twice now. Once they had set up residence inside an open bag of peat moss which I stuck a shovel into. Ouch, ouch, ouch! Yesterday I ran over a nest on the riding mower. They must have just started it since it was barely visible. I got stung on the ear and swatted it. By the way this helps the others find you. They follow the scent of their fallen comrade. I could see them coming out of the nest now so I decided I could run faster than the lawn mower could take me. I had a little time before they reached me so I calmly stopped the mower and went to step off the front. Right onto the reverse pedal. Oops! Tumbled over forward, but quickly regained my composure and after looking to see if any one had seen me, I took off. Made a clean getaway too! I encouraged them to leave their nest and go somewhere else. By the way.wasp and hornet flying insect killer does NOT work. Use black flag.
Here is the best, I think, input from the following link.

BEES

We used to take a gallon of gas and a shovel after dark, pour the gas down the hole and light it, then start digging the nest up.......as long as the fire is burning (be sure it doesn't go out by adding more gas as needed) they can't take off and get you.

Got it, just the opposite of the way you deal with vampires. :yay:

Okay, I know about pouring gasoline down the bee-hole and lighting the gas. But adding more gas to an already-lit fire?? Uh, I thought that sequence equals explosion. The idea is to explode bees only, right?

And why dig out the nest? The gasoline/fire kills them all anyway, right?

Call me a tree hugger if you must, but I was trying to limit the number of chemicals I pour into the soil.

Then again, I'm no chemist and maybe the gas is less harmful than the pesticide I used. The water was worth a shot, didn't cost me anything. Already paid the METCOM bill.

I had ground bees at my old house. Took the running push mower over the top of the nest and left it running for an hour. Bee parts EVERYWHERE! Then poured gasoline (or kerosene - I can't remember which) down the hole to kill the remaining ones. :yay:

Wasps are also nasty and I kill them on sight. I have a hole in my arm from a sting I got at my grandmother's house when I was about 10. :burning:
