How in the world do I train him to be wary of strangers, without teaching him to hate people? he is still a baby just yet, and has just recently started to be alert when he hears noises outside..so I'm hoping it's coming. Hes just too damn friendly and sweet. good for nothing mongrol.

Be supicious when the situation warrants, and encourage him to do the same. "What's that? Go see. Watch him." Manipulate your tone and body language to convey that this is something to be concerned about. Dogs read us well.

When the situation does NOT warrant such concern, respond in kind.

All you need is more pizza as a reward?

I ended up with a friendly one too - tries to lick people to death I swear! Had to pull him off a lady in Petsmart who walked up to him to pet him, she had on shorts, and he was licking her leg and she was like - oh I have one JUST LIKE THAT and I don't mind. Okay but I mind if my dog is licking some strangers leg - hey I don't know where her leg has been LOL.
