It has been proven in State after State that lawful citizens carrying handguns either open or concealed does not lead to "blood in the streets" like many anti-gun fanatics predicted. In fact those citizens are some of the most law-abiding people when compared to the general populations arrest records.
I would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it!

It was on the news yesterday that stabbing deaths are way up in England. So their gun ban is working out real well for them.

Carrying a handgun is an uncomfortable and incovenient PITA. I would just rather not need it. I remember feeling 100% safe walking around Singapore or Saudi Arabia at any hour of the night or day, and never felt the need to be armed. Of course, these countries execute all their criminals too, which is why I would gladly trade in my concealed carry permit if we would start killing all the robbers, muggers, rapists, thieves, and other ner-do-wells in this country.

If some folks always want to change the tax code, healthcare, schools, etc., because some foreign country is doing it better, why can't we change the legal system to be more like Singapore or Saudi Arabia?

OMG! Are you serious?

A scaled down version, perhaps. As in, you can't kill your daughter because she's been defiled by a rapist. But I'm a big fan of making it so painful to commit a crime that you think twice before doing it again, and it sends a message to other would-be criminals. When that punk got caned in Singapore for vandalizing those cars, I thought it was brilliant.

Absolutely! Let me tell you how these systems work: You commit a crime, you get caught, you get tried, you get sentenced, you get executed... all in about a week. Since they execute most of their criminals, there aren't a lot of them chocking up the legal system with appeals, motions, etc. Defense attorneys have plenty of spare time to devote to cases as there aren't thousands of repeat offenders tying up theit time, and the cops do a much better job of investigating because there are far fewer suspects.

I'm not saying we should adopt a lot of Saudi laws (although I like a lot of the Singapore laws), just their legal system. Punishment is swift and unduly harsh, which sends an awfully stong signal to any would-be criminals.

It's a good thing we have a Constitution to protect us from people like you. :yay:

The reason...

...our system is so lenient is because of fear of authority. We built in jury nullification. we built in the ability for the guilty to go free if the community was for it.

The idea of swift law and order sounds great...if you completely trust the authority. How many dissidents or enemies of the rich or powerful or competitors or n'er do wells who broke your daughters heart simply get swept away in Saudi or Singapore? Or King Georges England? Or any other authoritarian system?

Our problem is two fold; We've built an idiotic anti drug mentality that guarantees corruption and violence. It is a fundamental hypocrisy that we are the land of the free and home of the brave and personal responsibility, but you can't ingest this or that or the other thing. So, we make drugs highly illegal.

The money and corruption follows because of the simple premise that, like alcohol, people are gonna do it anyway. Our legal system and organized crime work together in an effort to keep most people from complaining, a few busts, keep the mad dogs under control, and the whole system rots.

The vast majority of what people don't like today are offshoots of drug laws, high paid defense lawyers, judges, big stinking money, and the underlying hypocrisy of legislating what someone chooses to ingest.

We don't need any more of a police state than we have now. We need less.

On one side, I'd like to see us all able to carry a sidearm if we wanted to; however, I think there are too many crazies out there for that to be a safe option.

Have one in the house - you betcha! :howdy:

I only know of one state that I can reference personally; Tennessee; which is a "Shall Issue" state. Those that pass the background check are granted a CCW. Now, whether it's the "southern hospitality thing" or not; Tennesseans are nice folks. I have noticed in TN most everyone is courteous; you can pass strangers on the street and they will look you in the eye and say, "Hello" or "How ya doin;" common courtesy.

You also don't hear many stories about violence like you do in Maryland.
Why? Because you don't know who's "strapped" and who isn't.
