Gyro meat

Has anyone attempted to make it? Someone I know thinks it is an actual kind of animal or something, but I got a recipe, am getting a meatgrinder and will be making some soon. Any tips will be appreciated.

Never made it but I've had a gyro sandwich once, not really for me. I'm pretty sure it's lamb with some kind of yogurt sauce.

I thought "gyro meat" was just roast lamb skewered so when it was cut, the cuts ran cross grain.

If you look it up there are all sorts of variations. Some call for part beef or pork. Emiril has a recipe that is leg of lamb seasoned to taste like gyro.

I think gyro in greek means "whatevah ya got mama"

GREEK GYRO MEAT

1 lb. ground lamb
1/2 c. very finely chopped (or shredded) onion
2 tsp. fresh minced garlic
3/4 tsp. salt (preferably sea salt)
1/2 tsp. dried ground marjoram
1/2 tsp. dried ground rosemary
1/4 tsp. black pepper

Mix everything together and
blah, blah, blah.
