Hand Gun Requirements?

I am thinking of becoming a gun owner but I am not sure what steps to take to get one. Is there a safety class offered and is it required to be registered? Basicly, what steps are required to become a registered owner?

Just make sure you do whatever you have to do before you turn. Driving could be a little difficult.

Well this is a new take on on gun control "I am thinking of becoming a gun" I personally am in favor of all law abiding citizens, being able to apply and get CCW, after taking courses, and passing background checks. JMHO

There are forms to fill out at time of purchase. You will not be allowed to carry the weapon with you while it's loaded until you apply for and receive a concealed carry permit. Think twice before you go down that road, because it's a PITA.

Check the MSP website, I can't remember the web address but there's a online course you will need to take before you can leave the gun store with your purchase.

I have always been against them, but for some reason, I suddenly feel like I want one. I do not want something great. Just something simple that will just hurt someone enough to back them away from me should something happen.

Seems as though a tack hammer may be more in the lines of what you want if you just want them to back away.....

Go find you a shooter to hang out with, preferably one that goes to a gun club. They will, happily, help you find YOUR gun, sharing all they know. They will teach you safety and skill. And they will NOT let you mess up. They will teach you. You will learn.

From there, when you find your gun, Maryland wants a week before allowing you your purchase.

Know this first;

1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded
2. Never point your gun at something you are not willing to destroy.
3. Know what is behind your target. Bullets don't stop at paper. Or flesh.
4. Don't put finger on trigger until ready to fire.

Get you some gun!!! There is NOTHING that says "CITIZEN" like owning a firearm.

Walk into a store and buy a gun

Consider a .22 revolver or a .380 auto loader for a first gun. Recoil is minimal, ammo is inexpensive (especially the .22) so it's affordable to practice.

DO NOT WAVE IT AROUND TO SCARE SOMEBODY
If you pull it out, be prepared to use it
If you use it, shoot at the center mass (chest) of your attacker

Anything else and they'll take it away from you and shoot you with it
You don't show a nail the hammer and expect it to crawl into a board

And, when you get done 'considering' them, get nothing smaller than a 9mm.

Anything or anyone worth shooting is worth shooting good. This is no joke if it is for self defense/personal protection.

Learn to shoot and shot well. Get comfortable with the thing. Become deadly. I am not kidding. There is NO point having a firearm you can't put to proper use.

Did you not see the post that said they just wanted to hurt the perp and get them to back away?

What do you want it for? A firearm is a tool; as such some will work better in certain applications than others.
