Let me guess you didn't buy the eggs specifically for boiling? Next time you are in the grocery store ask them to show you the boiler eggs. There is a little symbol on the carton that tells you if they are for frying or boiling. Your welcome!

I'll let the wife know what you said.
Hopefully (for your sake) you will never meet her.

Fresh eggs always helps plus cold water as you crack. I crack mine as I runn them under cold water then let them set for a minute or two.

i always thought older eggs were the secret, maybe that's why i was reading this thread....my eggs don't peel either. Used to go to the Brass Rail 20yrs ago and be able to pick up an egg from the basket, give it a whack on the bar and peel it with ease....must be a knack that's too complicated for some :buddies:

I rarely have an issue with peeling an egg, doesn't seem to matter if it's old or new. Brown eggs do seem to be a bit harder to peel sometimes.

I put up the pan of water on the stove and add the eggs while it's still cold, bring to a rolling boil and start the timer for 5 minutes. At the end of 5 minutes, turn the heat off and let sit for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, rinse in cold water. They usually peel very well. If you put them in the fridge to peel them at a later time, they "dry out" and don't peel nearly as well.

What is the freaken secret so the shells just peel off?

AND boil in Salt(y) water...

If any of the eggs are cracked it will prevent it from leaking, AND will help the shells come off much easier..

But the easiest way?? Tell the farmers to take Calcium out of their chicken's diet.. shelless eggs..

Good point.. Forgot about that..

Ask for the "boilers", fryers are usually most abundant and sometimes the boilers aren't even on the shelf..

Oh wait! I just remembered that brand of eggs does matter! Land O'Lakes Omega-3 eggs do not peel properly. The shell is thin and comes off in little teeny bits, bringing the egg white with it. Regular LoL eggs do just fine.

Now I have a mental video of those eggs pissing me off. Grrr....

How long do you boil them?

I cover mine in an inch of cold water and a splash of vinegar, boil the eggs for 3 minutes then remove the pan from the heat and keep it covered for 20 minutes.

I peel the shells off under cold water by tapping the egg on one side until it cracks then rolling it around, cracking the rest of the egg....then I peel it.

You know, for an extra dollar, you can buy already peeled hardboiled eggs in a bag. Highly recommended. :yay:

Learned about those while on vacation last week. Also, learned about "Batter Blaster". Pancakes in a cheese whiz can. No muss, no fuss and really good pancakes. :yay:

The secret to getting the shells of super easy is...Salt! I learned this from a chef from Celebrity and it works like magic. Toss a 3 tablespoons of salt in a pan of cold water add eggs bring to a boil. Boil hard for exactly 1 minute. Then turn off the burner and let the eggs sit in the water for 12 minutes drain and run cool water over them. When you go to peel them not only will the shells just fall off but the yolk will be perfectly pale yellow. :yay:
