Which is better for motorcycle course?

Harley Davidson is $395.00
CSM is $295.00

So price doesn't much fall into play.

One better than the other????

Advice?

Is HD's course recognized by the State of MD? I know the one where you register through CSM is the course run by the MVA....or at least it used to be.

They are both taught by certified MSF instructors, can't imagine one better than the other.

I can imagine being sponsored by a dealer there's going to be some selling, even if unintentional.. (not a dig against Harley, I would imagine ANY dealer would try to).

If you have base access, the MSF course is taught for free, as they require it to ride on base.

My dad has base access. You think I could get in through him?

Only if you still have your dependent ID..

That and the State does NOT recognize the on-base course, for no reason other than it's free!

You would still have to take the state drivers mounted exam..

The Harley and the CSM class, once you pass it, you no longer have that requirement.

Ah I figured, no dependant (not for many years) sometimes I wish though LOL

Ok so I think from the sounds of it, I am ok going with the CSM course.
After that do I still have to go take a test at MVA?

That was my reaction too. I have been talking about doing it for a very long time and figured if I don't just go do it, I never will. It looks with the way prices are going up I better hurry up before it's even more..

Probably not. with the increase in bike riders and the new emphasis on MSF course for a sticker the base classes are typically overbooked with many on stand by. Active duty get first crack, GS employees next then retirees and contractors get standby spots.

If you need the course relatively quickly best to just fork out the bucks and go. CSM used to have long wait as well but it might be better now. The provide bikes. I am not sure if the Harley course does or not. Both are MSF format so they should satisfy the state requirements.

HD and CSM course material are the same.
HD uses Buell Blast and CSM uses a Hnoda 250
HD stands for Hundred Dolla which explains the price difference

CSM actually has a class in 2 weeks I can get in. I was pretty shocked, but then again with the price I can understand too..

I'd jump on the CSM class.. Hard to believe they have ANY opening this time of year.

That was what I thought, last year when I called they didn't have anything for 6 months.
Waiting for lady to call me back now

Are these classes only done in LaPlata? The website doesn't say if tey do them in Leonardtown..

Bob, you sure about this? I dont think contractors get it free, I think they have to pay. Not sure about retired guys.

From what I unerstand, contractors have to take a day off.. that's their only cost for the course..

Government don't.. it's part of our 40 hours of required training..
