So I've been 'sans ride' for a good 6 years now, after selling my FLHTC, and have been itching to buy another ever since (the FLHTC was bike # 14).

So what did I just do to put two wheels back under me?? I bought a vintage/classic chopper..with a 40s-vintage 74 ci U-model flathead.

I need my head examined.

Well that there is the truly funnay part...I'm only a week or so away from getting the 'sign off' from my back surgeon that I'm good to go and can start abusing my back again. LOL

Sounds cool. I don't know enough about them to keep them going though.

Just make sure you sit up straight for the bumps.:lmao:

Nice.....but my azz and back couldn't take it.

I'm not sure mine can either. As a fallback option, I'm thinking about draining all the oil out* and making it a base for a new living room table.

*even the pictures of old H-D's leak oil.

Oh goody goody. New jugs, pistons, valves and gaskets all arrived today to overhaul the chopper flathead. What blew up started life as 80 ci jugs and were then bored to paper thin from there. I'm going back to being stock 'U' engine at 74 ci to (hopefully) gain some reliability.

Heck, I'm probably dropping from a ground-pounding 35 HP back to a wimpy 30 HP by reducing the displacement from 80+ to74. :lmao:

Someone must make a more higher powered version of that engine. Maybe?

The flathead?..no..I'm the beneficiary of the recent fact that somebody started even making aftermarket jugs for the thing! Was barely a few years ago that all you could buy were extremely expensive NOS parts for the 30's vintage engines.

Ooh, that doesn't sound like a great idea. Not that I know a thing about it.:lmao:
