The people that commute over the bridge are going to love that shopping center going in there.

I wonder if HT is going to sell beer and wine, that has been a significant part of every Harris Teeter that I have been in. Their selection was always quite good.

no beer or wine till md changes it laws.. I have never understood this...and have sent Peter Franchot many an email about it, to no change. It isn't like the state can't tax the sales..! Personally just democratic bs as usual! The State of California has absolutey no problem selling beer, winem and alcohol in its stores! Why does Maryland?? Virginia has it state run Liquor stores, but sells wine and beer in its grocery stores. Pa is another strange rule..

Awesome! Another dollar store, fast food outlet, nail salon, and yet another grocery store. Just what we need! (some of these are educated guesses)

Here's an idea.... HOME DEPOT!

Too bad we can't get a nice new shopping center like this in Calvert, but good for St.Mary's to get the tax dollars.

It appears, the anticipated opening of the shopping center (2017?) will be long before the rt.235/rt.4 intersection is re-designed (rt.4 to maintain grade, rt. 235 routed over...). Can only imagine the new traffic issues?
BTW, part of the re-designed intersection, removes the Wa-Wa.

Did they choose which option they were going with? My boss gets the notifications because it will affect our office. He hasn't said anything. Wasn't there an option to keep it? I can't imagine Wawa being ok with loosing their building. They do a ton of business there.

The latest, that I'm aware of for that intersection, which is tied together with the widening of rt. 4 (4-lanes) and the new bridge span.

It is a shame too, the state I came from started allowing grocery stores to sell beer and wine (and a few liquor) and guess what the blight that surrounds most liquor stores disappeared because the grocery stores wouldn't put up with it. There are just a few liquor stores left and they are all really nice ones that also wouldn't put up with it. I loved being able to pick up beer and wine at the grocery store, and it was usually cheaper.

The Harris Teeters that I shopped at in the past have had a huge wine selection, so my guess is this one isn't going to be "full size". Hopefully they will have a butcher counter at this one.

They will definitely be a threat to Giant.

So are all the Nick's stores not considered grocery stores? They all sell beer/wine/liquor, I believe.

Nicks and McKays are individually owned and not a corporate grocery store. That is why they can get an individual liquor license. Maryland's rules are that family owned grocery stores can get liquor licenses. It makes it more fair to the smaller liquor stores.

Not true ,they are both incorporated.I was under the understanding that they were both grandfathered in for certain reasons. As was BK Miller's in Clinton.

We were talking about that today. So, they'll spend $ building the shopping center and the landscaping, sidewalks, etc. only to have to probably replace it once they start on this whole intersection thing.

That is not true. Article 2B of the Maryland Annotated Code has been law since 1935. Nicks and B.K.Millers were not yet in business. Maryland has always protected liquor stores as opposed to chain stores. I doubt that will change anytime soon.

So, the trick is to be a small licor store that sells lots of groceries. It all makes perfect scene now.
