Did anyone see on the news about them not selling Jumbo Crabs to black people?? I caught the tail end of it last night, on news channel 8, and have not seen it again. All I know it is at the trailer that they have set up at the farmers market, and the reported was questioning the owner as to why she would not sell the jumbos to blacks, then turn around and sell them to white people.

That is awfully odd
To say the least.

All these cries of "racism" have made me cynical and jaded. Now whenever I hear stories like this, I think :bs: - the white people probably reserved theirs in advance, or the black people were being obnoxious so the vendor didn't want to sell to them.

I saw it on ABC-7. They even did the hidden camera trick on them and it was shown that when the black man asked for jumbos she said they were sold out, but 10 minutes later they sent a white guy up and he got his. The lady claimed that she went and searched her truck when the white guy came up and found them. Why didn't she search for the black guy?

I'm still cynical. Why would the vendor give a crap WHAT color the customer was? Their money is green and that's all she should need to know.

It's called prejudice, racism and stupidity.

Isn't this kinda like the smoking in the restaurant thing? It's your business, you can sell/cater to whomever you want.

Not in Maryland if your refusal is based on sex, race, creed, religion, sexual orientation, etc..

Black guy: I want some jumbo crabs?

Sales person: Sorry we are sold out.

Black guy leaves

Another employee says: Why did you tell them that, there is another load in the truck.

Sales person: walks off to check and gets them

Could have happened this way. :peace:

BUT, the camera being there makes me think that this vender was known for doing this and it was suspected.

I know. I'm just sayin', it shouldn't matter. What if the guy he did sell the jumbo's to was a friend and he was holding them? Hell, if I sold crabs I'd probably hold out the jumbo's for friends all the time.

Or, the news crew set the scenario up to incriminate...they don't care who they hurt.

Actually, I think the black guy had called "7 on your side" indicating the problems he had been experiencing with this vendor over a period of time (years). So they used him to do a demonstration. Could it have been an honest mistake? Sure, but from what I heard on that segment is that it had been an ongoing deal with at least this customer. If the lady had said, "Yeah I refused to sell them to that jerk, I've had problems with him for years." Then I would say she was within her right as a business owner, but she didn't say that and has left the reason to our imaginations and the black guy's claim.

I am surprised that you wouldn't beleive this kind of stuff is still happening in America as open minded as you claim to be.
And I'm surprised you just believe every cry of racism that you hear, considering it's a well-established fact that most of them are bullshit.

If she'd said that, she'd have a battalion of NAACP lawyers on her ass within minutes.

We've had people email us complaining that we discriminated against them because they were black when we'd delete a classified ad or chastise them for forum behavior. Hello, stupidass? This is the internet and we have NO IDEA what color you are!

I didn't see it. Did they actually ask the vendor why she didn't sell them to the black guy? Or are we just assuming the opportunity for her to defend herself was there. Personally, I don't care one way or the other. I'm sick of people screaming racism, then dishing it out. See it all the time. Jackasses think they can have it both ways. No wonder racism continues to exist.

don't know . . . maybe it's the same reason missing white kids get more air time than missing black kids.

Then I guess it all equals out, doesn't it?
