I didn't see it. Did they actually ask the vendor why she didn't sell them to the black guy? Or are we just assuming the opportunity for her to defend herself was there. Personally, I don't care one way or the other. I'm sick of people screaming racism, then dishing it out. See it all the time. Jackasses think they can have it both ways. No wonder racism continues to exist.
I saw it and yes that was the specific question asked. She tried to BS her way through it and looked worse in the process.

If the story presented is the unvarnished truth, then this woman deserves some publicity. I think consumers will punish her for racism better than any court could.

Could it have been because this customer has a history of complaining over his purchases, or tries to jew her down on price alot. Or maybe he was just a PITA.

We've had people email us complaining that we discriminated against them because they were black when we'd delete a classified ad or chastise them for forum behavior.
And then the best retaliation is to create your own site where you can remain free of the tyrannical white-run sites. (Although, progress is questionable since there is currently little content present and the last update was 17 June.)

I saw it on ABC-7. They even did the hidden camera trick on them and it was shown that when the black man asked for jumbos she said they were sold out, but 10 minutes later they sent a white guy up and he got his. The lady claimed that she went and searched her truck when the white guy came up and found them. Why didn't she search for the black guy?

The vendor is gonna <img src="http://www.allisonroad.org/images/logos/062.gif"> like a pig........

"Typical White Person"
I use to work at a carry out seafood market and we had a handful of about 10 customers that pretty much got every jumbo crab that came through there during the summer. They were good customers, they never complained, paid the full price no matter how high they went and were always reliable. Some of them would just leave their phone number in the begining of the year and say "call me if you get any in and I'll come and get them as soon as I can". Therefore I used to say "sold out" to alot of people even though we had some. I knew we would sell them to our repeat, no complaining about the size, weight, price of the crabs, customers.

On the other hand there were a certain select customers that I knew everytime I sold them crabs they would call back and complain, say they got sick or demand their money back even though they ate 3/4 of them.

So there could be more to this story then what appears at face value.

Wow, this thread demonstrates the bigotry that still exists in Southern Maryland. Most of these posts are trying to come up with every off-the-wall reason for why this vendor refused to sell jumbo crabs to the black guy, when the story itself clearly shows that the vendor blatantly wouldn't sell these crabs to a black guy. The white person who came up 10 minutes later was a stranger sent in by News 7, he wasn't some long-time customer who had called and reserved crabs, the black guy wasn't rude, the vendor didn't make a mistake, etc. Go ahead, though, and make up any convoluted excuse for the vendor you want.

Even the above quoted statement, "jew her down," is rude, obnoxious, and racist. I know not everyone in Southern Maryland is this ignorant, but sometimes these forums don't seem to reflect that.

I am rarely suprised anymore. The rift keeps getting bigger and bigger. The thing here is that they will take 1 isolated instance and blow it up to seem like we are back in the 1950's with seperate water fountains and back of the bus rules.

Goofing Off, normally I avoid conversation with you but this time I must interject.

Doesn't that sound odd to you? That this crab vendor would single out this particular black guy to not sell crabs to? Doesn't it seem like previous black customers would have noticed the vendor wouldn't sell crabs to them and would have complained by now? Or maybe this is the first black person that's ever tried to buy crabs from this particular vendor?

And the only crabs in question are jumbo ones. Does that mean the vendor refused to sell this guy ANY crabs? If the guy tried to buy smaller ones, would he STILL have been turned away? I mean, why refuse only certain crabs to a black person? If you are racially motivated, wouldn't you refuse to sell ANY crabs to a black person?

What the "reporter" should have done was send another black person up to buy jumbo crabs and see if they were turned away as well.

As to why the vendor stammered when confronted, who knows? Sometimes people do that when a reporter sticks a microphone in their face and accuses them of racism.

Rack'em, I deleted your picture of Alfalfa because supposedly he is offensive to blacks. They don't seem to find 50 Cent offensive, but they sure do get excited over Alfalfa.

You seem to not understand the concept of context.

Want to see racism, c'mon down here to the deep south. The black guy in the story was lucky just to get crabs. There are some down right out-back places down here. I'm not saying racism is right...unfortunately not everyone feels that everyone is equal.

You're right. That would be because I have a family and I run a business, and I don't have time to gather information about what people are finding offensive at any given moment, considering how rapidly it changes. And, frankly, it's futile to even try because just when you think you've PCed yourself into complete compliance, someone else comes along and thinks up something else to be offended by.

Well, if you actively avoid conversing with me, then I take that as an indication that I must be fairly reasonable. It doesn't sound odd to me at all. As you stated earlier, if the vendor had simply been refusing to sell all crabs to black people, he would have had people all over him about it. It makes more sense to be subtle in his discrimination, by reserving the largest, most desirable crabs for his white customers, and to tell his black customers that he simply doesn't have any more jumbos. Furthermore, as far as other black customers not complaining earlier, that would depend on how many of them were buying the jumbo crabs, their gullibility in believing his excuse, or their desire to complain about it. None of which I know.

Moreover, I never said that there may not have been another, non-discriminatory reason for the vendors refusal to sell the jumbo crabs to this black person. However, I think any reasonable person can see what is going on here, and doesn't have to come up with all these off-the-wall explanations to justify this discrimination.
