Comcast? Verizon? DishNetwork? DirectTV?

What do you have?

What Channels do you get in HD?

Price?

I'm just happy to have cable. Got Directv but I am not really sure what HD is, I know it's high definition but I am not even certain what it looks like. Comcast is like a vampire, will suck you dry. I like Verizon regardless, but DishNetwork I have no idea on.

:yikes: you pay almost $2000 a year just to watch TV?

without the right tv (one with a hd reciever) HD is a waste.

I have the Directv Total Choice Plus Package which works for me because I am not home until 5:30pm M-F and on a rarity do I have the time and attention span (should I catch a movie at the beginning) to watch a movie. So I just need the basic stuff. I buy most of my movies on DVD and if there is something new I missed in the theater I just pay for the view. Here is the package:

Sorry all I just checked my account have the TCP package. My bill is like $50.98 a month. I was reading and was like where does the other $9 go?

I have directv - total choice plus, with the HD package and HD Tivo receiver. The HD pack is an extra ~$11/month, and I think the Tivo subscription is another ~$6. The HD pack includes ESPN, ESPN2, ABC,CBS, NBC, FOX (no local HD channels yet, but should be coming in the future), HDNet Movies, HDNet, DiscoveryHD, UniversalHD. If you can pull in local HD channels OTA, they will set you up w/ an antenna to do that. I could not from my location, thus I get the NYC feeds of ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX. It isn't the most comprehensive HD package, but I've been with Directv for so many years, it wasn't worth it for me to change providers for a few more channels.

check http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=6
for good info on HD choices, particularly about the questions you have.

The 159 a month is probably including the 40 a month for cable modem too.

Comcast HD with DVR service here. I think like 15 channels in HD look great on my 56" Samsung DLP. Im addicted to the Discovery HD channel LOL...

We have the same 56". Love it. We just got an antenna $10.00 from Walmart to boost the other stations and rec'd them in HD. It's awesome. We get over 50 more channel in HD.

I'm getting the new Samsung 56" DLP that goes all the way up to 1080p...in a few weeks probably.

As for movie channels...I used to have Showtime and Starz, but dropped them both and got Blockbuster Online for movies. $13/month and I choose which movies I want. You also get two free in-store rentals that I use for games (or movies if there aren't any games that I want to try).

HDTV in Charles County

I just got HDTV thru Comcast on Friday 1/6/06. The channels are EXCELLENT. If you have an HD-TV, please do yourself a favor and get HD for at least a month. Now, I will talk about the different companies.

I use to have Directv but I didn't have HD thru them. It was a little work to get HD thru Directv. They have to come out and give you a new dish (if you have the round one and not the oval one to get HD channels). Plus, if you want local channels you have to get a separate antenna. With Comcast, all you need is a HD box. Right now, Comcast offers more HD channels than Directv because they can offer your local channels in HD. I'm hearing that Directv will offer more channels soon. Comcast has a great special for 59.99, I got a digital box, HBO, Starz, TMC and internet for a year (with modem) with no contract.

With all that being said, Directv has a better picture for regular channels. Directv is 100% digital. With Comcast, some of your channels are in analog. Comcast said, "all their channels will be Digital sometime in the future". But when!!!!!!! At this point, I'm thinking about going back to Directv.
Also with Comcast, you have to wait in a four hour window for them to show up for service calls. With Directv, they tell you when they will be there.

I also had DSL thru Verizon and it was excellent. With my Comcast cable internet, I notice it's slow during peak hours but much better late in the evenings. I've heard the more people on, the slower it moves.

Hope that helps!

Best review so far! Thank you. I'm leaning towards Comcast. Worried that they don't service where I live however (still a 'new' development).
