Kiki is clawing up my whole house, so I'm trying to get her to use the scratch pad instead. I mounted a corrugated cardboard panel on the basement stairs post that she likes to destroy, about 3 feet up so she can stretch up to claw.
Next I sprinkled catnip on it in hopes it would attract her. Then I said, "Look here, Kiki..." and scratched at the pad to give her the idea.
She watched this for a minute, then went up in the kitchen to claw at the cabinets.
I scolded her and brought her down to the basement, and scratched at the pad some more. Her response was the start chewing on the scratch pad. We've been doing this for a couple of days now - how long is it supposed to take?
I really don't want to get her declawed if I can help it, but she simply cannot destroy my house with her clawing.

That's on my list of things to do today - go get some cat nail clippers and straighten that evil kitty out.
She just needs to learn. We'll go the clippers route first and keep up with trying to get her interested in the scratch pad. If that doesn't work, I'll have her body parts ripped out.
