Help! Devil Cat!

Kiki is clawing up my whole house, so I'm trying to get her to use the scratch pad instead. I mounted a corrugated cardboard panel on the basement stairs post that she likes to destroy, about 3 feet up so she can stretch up to claw.

Next I sprinkled catnip on it in hopes it would attract her. Then I said, "Look here, Kiki..." and scratched at the pad to give her the idea.

She watched this for a minute, then went up in the kitchen to claw at the cabinets.

I scolded her and brought her down to the basement, and scratched at the pad some more. Her response was the start chewing on the scratch pad. We've been doing this for a couple of days now - how long is it supposed to take?

I really don't want to get her declawed if I can help it, but she simply cannot destroy my house with her clawing.

My cats use their cat tree and I clip their nails weekly. Kiki was used to having her nails clipped...have you tried that? Just take the tip off, that's the part that does the damage.

I have a large cat tree about 6 feet and I hung some toys on it...they love it.

You don't let her out anyway. Get her declawed. Do it quickly.

No because I'm scared I'll clip her toe off. That's on my list of things to do today - go get some cat nail clippers and straighten that evil kitty out.

I'm putting Emma in the car right now! We'll just "playfully" scare her into submissiveness. :really:

Get a 4' wood step ladder. She'll have a ball climbing and sitting on it & will sharpen claws on it too. If she ignores it, just act like you need to climb it and you'll be crowded in no time.

That cat is a menace.

She's a good kitty. :smack: She just needs to learn. We'll go the clippers route first and keep up with trying to get her interested in the scratch pad. If that doesn't work, I'll have her body parts ripped out.

It's easy. Do you have toenail clippers? Cats' nails are clear so you can see the cuticle (pinkish). All you do is hold her in your lap, generally when she's tired and do a couple at a time unless she's okay with it. Gently press her paw to extend her claws and snip off the sharp part. I only have one cat, Allie, who's a pisser and Ott has to hold her.

When I have the orphans, I start trimming their nails on day one because they'll tear your hands up when feeding...they don't mean to, it just happens.
