Help Me Plan a Picnic

I see this as an honor and should be a source of pride for you rather than viewed with negativity. Dysfunctional families benefit from new blood that are resourceful and capable in ways they chose not to be or can't be for reasons of their own. I think its great that you've resigned yourself to take on the role for this event. The one true thing that would drive me to continue this evolved tradition if I was in your shoes would be because I'd view it as something Id be doing it for my man more than I'd be doing it for any ungratefuls he happens to be related to... you rock...:yay:

You get me. :huggy: I am doing this for my husband. No other reason.

I do get you... and I'd do the same for the exact same reason. So you are definitely on the right track of just rolling your sleeves up to do what will make your man proud and happy and he won't mind in the least that you want to keep it as simple and cost effective as possible. As for the rest... they get what you decide they'll get and they'll like it or leave it! No worries!

You know what might be another great option? Order two 6-foot subs from Wal-Mart (be sure to call 3 days before you actually need them). They run about $30 per sub, and they come with condiments and let, tom, pickles. Believe it or not, they are really very good. We get them frequently for our fundraising thing we have going on.

Sounds like you're coordinating it to some extent. Let everyone know that they are to bring their own food. Make it clear. Show up with food for you and Giant. When they beg, ask them if they got the memo and don't cave in. Break the cycle. Let them be upset.

:yay: You can have the lettuce, tomato and condiments on the side as well. You can choose three different meats, turkey, roast beef or ham, or all three for no additional cost.

I didn't want to hi-jack the thread but your inbox is full. I was going to order from Subway for an upcoming event but at $30 per sub, this deal can't be beat. Do you call the deli section to order?

There is an order form on line, but you have to order in person. You may be able to call and place your order, then stop by to pay for it later if you are on a short turn around. They require 24 hour notice.

I googled it and found all that info. Thanks! I will show my husband and see what he says. Definitely a better price than Subway's 6' sub.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I really was stuck and couldn't get beyond the limitations I had with everything.

I'm going to throw the ideas out to the Giant. I have this feeling he'll picked smoked meat.

I thought fried chicken at first but that's a lot of time and money. :faint:

I could probably make some wraps and a pasta salad and bring some fresh fruit. All good ideas. Thanks!
Have you ever thought you spoil the family, because you come with the most food? Maybe they think "Mig will come with enough". Make a nice Dip, and bring some chips. You, and your Husband can go out afterwards.

I'm usually the same way. Take people as they are, and if making peace means boiling 4 lbs of pasta and making a pasta salad, id do it. :lmao:

I wouldn't. I'd give them the old "Yuck Foo" but I've never considered "keeping the peace" to be my responsibility. However, Mig is not me so I like the pasta/potato salad and cold cut sandwiches idea.

I swear, vrai, you truly are the queen of new and completely unique words and phrases!

As far as picnics, I haven't planned/done one in years. Mig, if you are into Food Network, Giada and Ina always have great ideas for picnics.

Mig, can I help you make stuff for your reunion? PLEASE???? I love doing this stuff. Cooking for 50 is, for me, much more fun - and a lot easier - than cooking for for three people.

Some really good ideas for you here! I like the 6' sub idea, with chips & a salad. I also like this idea. Both are fairly easy to pull off.

Of course, you need to come back and fill us in on the details, after the picnic, too!
