Ha ! You are using a similar training program to what I use - at least the sleeping part! :buddies: However, my cats do come when I call them, usually. The twist is this, the new cat comes when I call the other cats name ..... so I was thinking that just maybe ??? the new cats name in the past used to sound the same as my other cat??? Just guessing here LOL These shelter cats come with unknown histories so we never know.

Goliath is such a playful boy that I doubt he could be trained in attack work unless it was done as a game to pounce on another kitty? I've seen him make sneak attacks on my girls

TGIF

What/whoever may try to attack me. :duh:

I have trained mine to sleep for 86% of the day and not come when I call them. They are masters at those.

update on Goliath

Well Goliath is at his new home even though his play date didn't go that well. He was frightened and the other cats hissed at him. I have a feeling that the resident male is going to whack him around a bit first to be sure he understands who is in charge LOL - then maybe they will start playing together.

I have been fortunate the cats I have adopted out in the past have gone to good homes, and this one is no different. I really feel good that this family is a great match for Goliath, and as long as he is accepted by the other cats, all should be well.

I feel bad inside knowing Goliath is frightened and not sure of where he is. I also know this is part of the process and he will be feeling fine soon. Goliath's new Mommy thinks he's gorgeous !

:yahoo: I am glad he found a home, he is a very pretty boy. Don't feel bad about feeling bad, when my babies left it was very bittersweet. I wanted them to go to a good home (which they did) but I was very worried for them and it didn't make it any easier. Good job!

Goliath is at the top of the list as one of the most gorgeous kitties I've adopted out. People ask me all the time why I don't keep some of these cats, and I explain it to them. I help rescue these cats so they can be adopted out, not for me to pick and choose and keep the "best" ones. Also my preference is to keep ONLY special cases like the 2 ferals I converted to house cats. When my male died I went to Tri-County and found the worst looking older cat they had on death row and adopted her as my own.

I would love to have a cat like Goliath, that long hair (medium length actually) and such a handsome boy, and a BIG boy too? All favorites of mine in kitty characteristics, BUT he was meant to be in a home with activity and with children.

Remember Mouse? He was very active and I knew he needed an active home. I found him a home with kids and hear he's the resident alarm clock to get the kids out of bed for school. Yeah Mouse is really smart!

Jerry was versatile as far as a potential home life, but I knew they had to be cat savvy people because he has a bit on an attitude sometimes in addition to the fact he didn't like other cats, so he had to be the only cat. I made sure they were aware of his attitude so it wasn't a surprise. They LOVE him AND his macho personality.

One lady wanted a lap cat, but she wanted a kitten. I adopted out a kitten to her who didn't turn out to be a lap cat. I felt bad but had she been willing to adopt an adult, I would have been able to pick out a lap cat for her, you know? So if I run across a lap cat I will see if she'd be interested in a 2nd cat.

I'm so happy for Goliath. It seems to take months to find a home for these cats, but in the end I feel good that they are going to have forever homes and get lots of love, and that's what make me sleep better at night.

I've decided to shift gears back to the feral cats. So I will be doing some fundraising (Yankee Candle Fundraiser runs until 10/29), then I will use that money to help alter more feral cats.

He is gorgeous! Glad you found him a good home.
