Hermanville Rd - Motorcycle death?

TPD

the poor dad
Saw a motorcycle on it's side in the middle of the intersection at Hermanville and Rt. 235 this evening at about 7. Plenty o emergency vehicles - anyone know how serious it was? Saw a bicycler pedaling away from the scene shaking his head in disbelief.

He lived, he flew about 40 to 50 feet, knocked out of his shoes. Also a great example of why you don't ride in shorts, tee-shirt, and tennis shoes.
Flown to PG.

I saw a lot of that today.. and just had to think.. One way to turn a minor lowside into a two week hospital stay.

I'm betting one of them tried turning left throught the green light and the other got clobbered......right? WHEN is a left-turn-only light gonna go up there?!?!

Ed Zachary what happened.

Two of my friends were sitting at the intersection and saw this happen. They were very shaken by watching this.

They said he flew thru the air (at least 40 feet) doing flips the entire way. One said he wanted to look away and couldn't and the other closed her eyes. Very traumatic impact. Friend said he heard the guy screaming from the time he hit the truck until after he landed. He was hurt pretty badly from what he described, and I can only imagine the pain he was in. Prays for the biker, it's going to be a very long recovery.

Bad judgement is supposed to hurt. Hope he survives and learns from his experience.

Actually, the pick-up turned in front of the motorcycle (cycle had the right of way going straight) and I don't think the pick-up truck driver was injured, just to clarify. And I too hope he survives.

His bad judgement occured when he decided to ride naked.
Regardless, I don't think all the protective equipment in the world would keep him from being injured going 40+ mph and t-boning a pickup truck. I do agree, he should have been wearing protective equipment, but I guess the driver of the pickup truck should have been paying attention. More of a bad judgment on his part I would say.

I would hope the truck driver was cited, and would like to know what his excuse is. There are a LOT of intersections on 235 that that should be treated very carefully. Anytime someone is in a left turn lane in front of a biker (like this one) and oncoming traffic can't see them.. Mattapany going South on 235, when someone is turning right and someone is coming out. (People behind me probably think I'm drunk, because I'm all over the road to make sure the person entering 235 sees me).

You'd be surprised at what people that are dressed right can walk away from.. that's why you don't see motorcycle races with people in t-shirts and shorts. Check out the Isle of Mann TT crash with "Milk" and tell me how he survived.

You're right, your choice to dress the way you want to dress, but some just don't feel the excrutiating pain is worth looking cool.

There are levels of insanity from simple craziness to somewhere beyond comprehension into absolute maddness.

This is somewhere in that further reach;

I didn't see the accident, but was approaching the intersection before ambulance arrived. The guy was moving his arms and he had lots of road rash. I'm so glad he's alive -- and hopefully will make a full recovery.

It was a small bike. Possible inexperienced driver?

There was a helo about 20 minutes later. I wonder if they transported the biker?

NOT Politically Correct!!
Yeah I saw the accident scene on the way to the store, when I returned it looked like a Maryland State Trooper was landing to pick him up for transport to the trama center. As for safety equipment, if they mandate seatbelts inside of vehicles, it only makes sense for motorcycle riders to be required to wear approved safety equipment.

And this is like the second accident at that intersection in 2 days!!! I think Friday or Saturday there was one also!
