If they drive the car back to the pits or garage, they're not required to go to the infield care center. Looks like they picked up on his memory loss comment and checked him again.

JJ was eventually taken to "a nearby hospital" for further observation. Alan Bestwick reported this just after his interview with Tony. It seems to me that he at least has a concussion, he did have quite the vacant look in his eyes during his interview. What amazes me is the fact that he drove the car into the pits and stopped dead on his marks.
