Historic vehicle plate change

I wonder how all of this is going to play out since riding dirty is NOT a primary offense for getting pulled over. Allegedly, the rules were changed for police that they cannot pull someone over just for bad tags, expired tags, etc.
Should be interesting...

I do this for a living, and when you see the fee increases July 1 i think everyone will be shocked. Gov Moore is raising almost EVERY fee in the state, especially MVA fees, and substantially. We are not talking about 10% inflationary increases, but upwards of 100% and more in many cases. Historic tags are one thing, more of a distraction than anything. How about renewing the tags on your tahoe now costing $400 every 2 yrs. Or the titling fee doubling to $200 from $100 and tax rate to 6.5%. If you buy a $1000 car for your kid, it may cost you $750 to register it and thats not counting the md state inspection. Pucker up Marylanders. Youve gotta bail out spend happy Gov Moore

It has been introduced in the legislature (both chambers) and referred to the respective committees, but nothing further. As far as I can tell it is still a direct violation and a legal stop.

Hmm. In that case, someone needs to tell the sheriff's office and the MSP because they are doing ZERO about it now and for the last few YEARS.

Are you speaking of the period when the Fauci Flu was running rampant and the governor gave people a break on tag renewals since MVA wasn't really doing their job?

After almost 53 years here I am seriously considering a move west. The only thing keeping me here was family and most of them are deceased or living elsewhere now. Maryland will vote blue no matter who til the end of days.
Mommy Dearest, may God bless her soul, left me the house, because I was the wayward son and she knew, that I gave up a lot of life to make sure she died in the house that Dad built for her. Taxes are eating away at retirement funds and I may have to bail and go elsewhere. Sad, because I love fishing and I know the waters.

I was reminiscing over some old fishing pictures the other day with friends that are no longer with me. Those were great times spent on the Potomac and out in the bay. One of them was of the Tackle Box bragging board loaded with 20-30 inch weakfish from back in the late 90s. I know those days won't return just like the people I spent them with. Maybe a new adventure in a new place wouldn't be a bad thing.

No.. I am talking about the YEARS since we have been out of COVID. Since the "break" was ended.
Have you contacted the sheriff or local MSP barrack commander and inquired about this?

As a non-point infraction it might be that they are using their discretion not to enforce the law.

Last time I inquired about it, I was told "Don't worry.. eventually they will be caught."
Eventually??? Well, RIGHT NOW it is effecting MY costs for renewals, insurance, etc. (And yes.. I know Moonbeam is the primary reason but, this factors in too.)
When was the last time your boss told you to do a job task and you replied with "I'll do it... eventually?"

Boss? Since I've been retired for almost 18 years you must be talking about my wife. I tell her that all the time.

MSP at Leonardtown barracks. Had a repair ticket for brake light. Asked them about all the expired tags. Was told "They will be caught eventually." This was about a year ago.

Am I correct in assuming that you had a job at some point in your life? You say you are "retired." Assuming you retired from a job. Where you had a "boss." At that time, did you ever tell that boss that you would complete your work "eventually?"

Based on your posts I take it that you weren't satisfied with that response, did you elevate your concern?

It is a fact that I am retired, several posters here even showed at my retirement party. I do not recall ever telling any boss that I would get to it eventually. But then again I didn't have the discretion to ignore tasks, orders, or laws like LEOs apparently have.

Elevate it to whom? Barracks commander? Governor??
There appear to be 2 types of people who deal with this type of stuff. Those who really don't care UNTIL it effects them -OR- those who are already benefiting from the actions and just riding it out until if effects them. In essence, people are just too lazy to really do anything about it. I could put myself in that group BUT, at least I enquired about it and brought it up to the attention of those responsible for doing something about it.

THIS is the disturbing part. That it is widely "acceptable" that LEOs just disregard portions of their job. When questioned, you get responses like "Why don't you just sign up, do a ride along, etc."
How about I do the job I was hired for and we get the LEO to do the same? Do I have to do their job as well as mine?

Yeah, both of those would be good and you also have other elected representatives at county and state level that you could voice your complaints with. That might gain more traction than bitching about it on the forums.

You seem to want to, man up, join the force and show them how its done.

Ahh yes. Another in the long line of deniers that wear the blue lipstick

I mean... GOD FORBID we ask our holier-than-thou LEO to do everything they signed up for. And, by doing that, possibly save taxpayer money. What an outlandish idea...

As I thought, you just want to cry and whine. You brought your gripe to a desk officer at the barrack and nothing more. Such a noble warrior for rule of law and justice you are.

You know I don't really have a problem with the police being able to have some discretion in some things. I'm not saying a wholesale refusal to apply the law, but the ability to cut someone a break depending on the circumstances. One point that I do have though is this is not ever to save anyone any money, it's strictly a way to force the citizenry to pay more into the governors pet projects.
