The unions are wonderful, I'm sure they can help you out. Just tell them you want a job at one of the car companies Obama seized from the stockholders and gave to the union.

Your personality vastly exceeds your intelligence. Perhaps in the wrong direction. I'll bet your friends (if you have any) are so proud of you. Maybe you should try a boat or plane ticket... and give it a try somewhere else. And you could start a new blog. Call it "I am Ignorant to Politics and the American way".

And... please tell me how many unions own, or control any car company in the USA? Last I checked, that would be zero. :looney:

That woud be the UAW.

Maybe you remember, it was in the news how GM and Chrysler were "to big to fail." We had to give them billions of tax dollars so the union workers could continue to sweep the floor for $75 an hour when they weren't building cars. They weren't allowed to go through the legal process of bankruptcy and then a reorganization because Obama coerced the bond holders to give up their claims so the UAW could be given a controling interest in the companies.

Careful What You Wish For:
GM Management’s Payback to Obama and the UAW?
By Dan Oswald

I read Tuesday that General Motors Corporation outlined a new plan that would give the U.S. government a controlling stake in the company. In addition, GM said it would use stock to pay off half of the amount it owes the United Auto Workers (UAW) to cover retiree benefits.
I checked my calendar. It wasn’t April Fools Day. So I’ve reached the conclusion that this is either a sick joke or an incredibly clever plan dreamed up by GM’s management in order to poke back at the Obama administration, which forced out GM’s CEO earlier this year while also getting in a shot at the UAW.

Is there any way this can be a serious proposal? The U.S. government would own at least 50% of the company and the UAW would own another 39%–a combined 89% or more for the two.

The conflicts of interest are too numerous to mention them all, but humor me as I toss out a few. Let’s start with the UAW. The UAW represents the employees and sits across the table from management at negotiations. But management reports to the board, which represents shareholders. Who’s the second largest shareholder? The UAW.

So management is also representing the UAW. Can either side really win? The UAW rep does his job too well representing members and it hurts UAW the owner. If he doesn’t do his job well, the members won’t have any reason to be members any longer. So should the UAW act like an owner and maximize shareholder return or should it act like a union and be the strongest advocate it can be for its members?

What about the U.S. government and its potential conflicts? I’m not even sure where to begin. Let’s start with a topic near and dear to the heart of the current administration—emission standards. The U.S. government sets emission standards. Let’s assume for a minute that raising the emission standards would allow GM to more effectively compete with Ford Motor Company, which, by the way, is the only one of the big three U.S. automakers not teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.

Maybe raising emission standards is the right thing to do for the environment. But if it benefits GM at Ford’s expense, how will it be perceived by Ford and others? The same goes for trade policy that might negatively impact foreign automakers. And what about tax policy that might impact the fortunes of the auto industry? And there’s always the issues surrounding foreign oil. Any move that the U.S. government made in these areas would be viewed with skepticism.

That’s why I believe this must be a clever, no, make that Machiavellian, plan put forward by GM’s management. The GM management’s thinking might go something like this . . . The Obama administration wants to call the shots including forcing out our CEO. GM management says, “OK, federal government, here are the keys to the kingdom. Have at it. Let’s see what you can do with the company.” And the UAW doesn’t want to make the concessions necessary to allow the company to survive. “Here you go federal government, you deal with it. You figure it out. You come up with the plan to pay everyone what they think they deserve and still keep the company solvent. Good luck!”

It’s brilliant! Suddenly GM’s biggest nemises own the company with all of its problems. Management must be reveling in the thought of the U.S. government and UAW trying to guide this massive company back to health. You take both parties from the sidelines, where it’s easy to be an armchair quarterback, and put them in the game. If GM’s plan is accepted as proposed, which doesn’t seem likely unless the other parties are incredibly naïve or arrogant, the ensuing drama that will unfold will be something to behold. They should sell tickets!

My family and I are in dire need of help.

He has a CDL license but there hasn't been many opportunities for CDL drivers that we have seen and the ones we have seen he applied for and heard nothing back.
Happy Holidays to you all no matter your situation, it is the season for joy, love, peace & happiness. I miss the good times and I pray that I have happier times ahead in my future and my familes' future.

Wow..what a long note. (paragraphs are our friends) .

I saw the CDL comment.
In the Recorder, last weeks Friday paper, SMO is looking for drivers with CDL license.
You can go to your local library ( my favorite place) and read all the papers for free!!
Check it out...
Suggestion for you...go to the local college and spend some time taking "not for credit" classes to improve your job skills...and better your odds at getting that job.
New classes begin in January...learn a new skill, get a new job.
College will help you with funding.

If you want it bad enough, you will get what you need.
Good luck! :howdy:

People, please. Start another thread. I'm pretty sure OP didn't start this to listen to a bunch of griping about the government.

Two tips of advice...

1. Call Charles Co. HUD office as DSS has NOTHING to do with Section 8 whatsoever.

2. Tell hubby to take any job that he can come across, not just one in his field. This is a huge issue that I have with anyone crying about not having a job. He has a family to support. Tell him to swallow his pride and help take care of his family.

:yeahthat: has always been a pet peeve of mine. Places like McDonalds, Wawa/Sheetz, Walmart, etc. are almost always hiring and something is ALWAYS better than nothing. Many, many years ago there was a time that I couldn't find a full time job, but I did find 3 part time jobs - worked 6 to 7 days a week all together in order to support myself and my kid. Kept me afloat for over a year until one of those part time jobs turned into full time with a promotion.

I do wish the OP and her husband the strength and determination to "do what you got to do" to make things work for her and her family!

She is not asking for money or donations, she is asking for ideas on how to get her life back together.

'tis it also the season for azz clowns?

I appreciate someone realizing that I just want help and advise on what to do to get some help for my family! Not a hand out. Sometimes bad things DO happen to good, decent, hardworking people! I have went to DSS, etc.not just called. I was told that I get too much money for any kind of real help or program that I could use. I get a small SS ck for my daugter because her bio father died when I was 2 months pregnant and my husband gets a very sm child support ck for his 2 kids (and no other help at all from his ex for his kids but the child support) which adds up to a little over $800 a month, just over the $804 minimum we had to be below to get assistance, I believe we were over by like $60 or so to get the help we needed. The only suggestion they could offer was for my husband and I to get separated and then reapply. I am so upset about this I cannot even begin to tell you. I have worked hard all my life and helped others when I could, bought gifts for kids during Xmas time for charities etc., and now I need the charity and help and cannot get anything! I am loosing everything I have ever had in life and now have to worry about being homeless. OUTRAGEOUS! Even more so when people think I am scamming to get something. I have been denied jobs because my credit is now terrible when a year and a half ago my credit was above excellent almost 800 score! I am furious!! I am trying and because of my financial issues can't get a job. How ridiculous. So sometimes bad things do happen and they are beyond our control and even though we try, there's just nothing that we can do to help ourselves without a little assistance to get back on our feet again. I am sorry but I feel very let down by my community, gov't, some friends and family in this time of need. I know I am not alone either. There are many of us out there.

My husband has a very serious back injury (had 3 surgeries and still in treatment) and driving really isnt something he should or can even really do any more but he is because he has his CDL still and he knows that he has to do whatever to support his family at this time to get us through. Just because a driving job is available doesn't mean he will get hired. He has applied to several and not been hired. He got hired for a job that was supposed to have a contract with PAX River Base, they didnt get the job and let him go because they jumped the gun on hiring him before they knew if they had the contract or not. He cannot stand up for any real length of time so apply for Walmart, Mc Donalds etc will never work. He will be fired on the 1st day. He didnt want to apply for SSi because he wanted to work for his family but now has been advised to do so by his doctors. And we all know that will take forever to get even if he gets it. I have applied at those places myslef. People post on here I need to lower my standards. I have, and Im still not getting hired either and I am a very smart, intelligent and educated person. I have much potential to offer any company. My credit seems to be the reason I get rejected most of the time when I get a letter or email as to why i wasnt hired. I think that is totally unfair in this economy.

Criticize me if you will, but the more I hear, the higher my BS meter goes "BONG"

They're are plenty of people with lousy credit that find work and as for your husband, he hasn't been able to find a job in 2 years and receives child support?....."BONG"

Sounds like your parents have their own meter too...

Yet your spelling and grammar are horrendous! Do you know what a paragraph is?

Since when do companies check your credit score before hiring? :bs:

Since when do companies check your credit score before hiring? :bs:

Actually, a LOT of companies check your credit score now. Obviously jobs where you are dealing with money directly will check it - but more and more companies are checking it, I suppose as a means of checking out how responsible a person is? I'm not 100% sure why companies are checking credit scores now - but I do know that they do it. I've known people turned down for positions because of it.. but I am talking about white collar jobs here, not McDonalds. I also have a couple of friends in HR (again, at companies that would be considered 'white collar' - not McD's) and they routinely check the credit score of applicants before they even call them in to interview. If their resume is on par with everyone else's, they will use the credit score as a means of turning them down before they even interview.

Yeah it sucks for some people, because sometimes life happens - but you can improve on your credit score, even after stuff like bankruptcy. So it's not like a bad credit score blacklists you from ever working again.

I'm not going to weigh in on whether or not the OP is genuine - I like to give people the benefit of the doubt though. It has burned me quite a few times, but it's just the way I am. And I do feel sorry for her based on what she has said - I'm sure it is really tough to find a job in this economy with an injury like that (I'm talking about her husband).

OP, my only advice is to keep looking for little odd jobs - working here and there does add up. And to keep your chin up, I think that a lot of people in this country are in the same boat right now and when you reach the bottom, you have nowhere to go but up - you have to keep the faith that things will be ok.

Try the Housing Authority located on the road behind McKays off of Great Mills Rd.

See here = St. Mary's County Housing Authority Housing Assistance

The Housing Authority of St. Mary's County, Maryland
21155 Lexwood Drive, Suite C.
Lexington Park, MD 20653
Phone 301-866-6590
Fax 301-737-7929
MD Relay Svc. 711 or 1-800-735-2258 (V/TTY)

Note: STS will provide service to this location upon request.

And there are several BIG Apartment places that rent according to income and you have to go to each one and apply.

They charge 33% which for $800 that would be rent about $270 per month.

Like you said...white collar jobs or those where you work with money such as at a bank. Normal everyday jobs do not check. In fact, it's probably illegal and discriminatory to check.
