How Do You Make Your Iced Tea?

itsbob

I bowl overhand
PoT of water on the stove, rolling boil. Shut off the flame and put in 6 tea bags. Fill gallon pitcher with ice, add 1/4 cup splenda, pour tea over ice, top off with water.

KEy to whole process is shutting off the flame.. it's amazing how fast those paper tabs go up in flames .

This is how I make it except with no sugar or sugar substitute. I prefer my tea unsweet.

I've been considering buying an Iced Tea maker but I'm not sure if that's the solution to my "problem" or not. I've always made my tea by boiling the water on the stove, pouring it into a pitcher (with a little sugar --- don't like it real sweet), adding 2 Family size tea bags and steeping for about 3 1/2 minutes. Sometimes it's pretty good and sometimes it isn't. How do you make yours and what are your thoughts on tea makers?

I got a Mr. Coffee Tea maker. I love it. Also during the summertime I make sun tea. Before I got the tea maker, I would boil water on the stove and throw in about 3 family size teabags or 6 regular size. I've never had a kettle.

I have a diabete so I don't use sugar at all.

I sometimes make hot tea using a keurig with no kcup in it.

We drink a lot of tea...

We use a 8 quart stock pot. Bring the water to a boil, then turn it off. In goes 4 of the family sized tea bags and put the lid on the pot. We leave it sit at least 8 hours, usually 12-24. Then we add some sugar, pour it into the pitchers and put it in the fridge. We fill our glass with ice and pour in the cold tea over the ice. The tea doesn't taste watered down or weak. Perfect every time.

What causes the tea to get "cloudy"? :cds:

Sometimes it depends on what brand you use. Other times the cloudiness can be a result of what water you use. Although it makes tea making an expensive project, you can use bottled water; or.....get a Britta (sp?) filter pitcher to filter the water into a clean gallon jug. It takes a while, but it's worth it. You might also try the Britta faucet filter.

I was raised that if I didn't make sun tea I made it this way

1 pot
1 cup sugar
8 regular sized tea bags
fill pot with water

Bring to a boil. Just to a boil. Remove from heat and walk away. And forget about it.
Once the pot is cold to your touch, strain out the tea bags. Dump tea liquid into pitcher, add additional water until pitcher is full. Stir, refrigerate.

However, nowadays, I open a packet of Crystal Light and add water and stir.

MY tea, you can see through, but it's dark.
I boil 4-6 cups of water, set it aside, then add 8-9 Lipton Iced Tea blend bags; the small one's; cover and let steep. When the stock cools to "pi** warm," I pour it over 1 2/3 cups of sugar, stirring to dissolve sugar, then add cold water til I have a gallion of tea. Time consuming to a point; but simple.

I have an Iced Tea maker and love it. I like my tea sweet, so I probably use way more sugar than most, and I use 8 regular sized tea bags. Comes out perfect every time. I use mine a few times a week, especially in the warmer months. And it's so easy to use, both my kids can now use it and make tea when we run out.

1 pot
1 cup sugar
7 regular sized tea bags
fill pot with water

Bring to a boil. Just to a boil. Remove from heat and walk away. Add additional water that steamed out, let cool.
Once the pot is cold to your touch, strain out the tea bags. Dump tea liquid into pitcher, refrigerate.

I go through 4 to 5 gallons a week.

I am so very blessed
My household (2 adults and 1 kid) goes through over a gallon of iced tea a day, easily. I don't use natural sugar; I use 1/2 cup of Splenda per gallon.

Some days I make up two gallons of tea for the fridge.

I still have all of my natural teeth.

Yeah, but what shape are they in?

I know four children who had to have baby teeth pulled because their mom put sweet tea in their bottle. Rotted their teeth out in no time and I'm pretty sure their teeth were brushed daily at least once.

Don't mind me, I'm just an anti-sweet tea advocate. The thought of sugar in my tea makes me cringe and I grew up on the super sweet concentrated stuff (with plenty of dental fillings to prove it)!
