How many bags to the hospital?

You better buy a bigger SUV. You don't know anything about packing for a few days away until you've traveled with a baby. A trip to the mall could require a trailer...(congratulations! Babies are so much fun):yahoo:

This is SO true. I used to think my 4runner was pretty big till having to go ANYWHERE with a baby.

Pack 3 bags. 1 for each car and 1 for by the door. When it finally came to the real deal I left my bag at home. :cds: I had to rely on my husband to go and pack my clothes for me. He couldn't find my bag. He brought all pre-baby clothes :( good luck though and congrats!

I looked on my Hospital Bill, and noticed they charged us something like $2.00 for two Tylenol, and $1.00 each for the Pads. I also noticed that they charged our Insurance for the little Gift Box that had Tooth Paste, Soap, and Tooth Brushes. I think that cost about $13.00, and this was in the 70's!!

No jewelery or anything you don't want stolen. My grandmother had her wedding rings stolen from her at a hospital.

I forgot about that, and they usually tell you that now

I can't stress the lip balm enough. Don't forget it

:blushing:Don't forget to take the Medications, or the Vitamins you take regularly. I also took Tylenol, and my own Shampoos & Soaps. They charge you for the little Gift Basket of those type things. Bring some Kotex too.

I used those ginormous skateboard-sized things the hospital provided. Do they still give you those awesome ice pack pad thingys? They are great especially if you have an episiotomy.

Seriously if no complications, you won't be there long enough to unpack so don't over do it. Warm comfy socks are a must and slippers if you are able to walk during labor, a nightgown or two, undies, toiletries, gadgets to keep you distracted in case you have a long labor, a going home outfit for you and baby and the car seat. Leave the jewelry at home. Also, train hubby or SO to bring you ice chips on demand! :lmao:

^ THIS, you'll be upset that you have to send someone out to get you some if you forget to bring it

I was scratching and clawing to get out right after the delivery.

My bag had my makeup case, blow dryer and curling brush, folding mirror, a Ziploc bag with toothbrush and toothpaste, a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt and a nightgown.

Sweatpants would be more comfortable...

The bra is important. As flat as I am I went to Dolly Parton dimensions once the milk came in. Those suckers hurt.

A blow dryer and curling brush? ugh and jeans?! :lmao:

OMG yes! When my milk came in my boobs were HUGE (I sure do miss them, haha) and they hurt so so soooo bad. I was in the hospital with the little one (he had to go back because he had jaundice) with NO pump (he wasn't getting a good latch, says the lactation consultant who looked at my nipples in horror! no wonder it hurt, lol) so I had to 'milk myself' into a bowl while they went to get me a pump. Talk about feeling like a COW

Make sure there is lip balm/Vaseline in the makeup or Ziploc bag.

It's great for an episiotomy, lips and under the eyes.

I had a hand pump back in the day. Can you spell RELIEF?

Oh I uhhh, hehe....I got a little carried away with the "truth" for a moment. I'd like to recant my previous statement and simply say that "breastfeeding was a pleasant experience for all parties, enjoy"

:lmao: Seriously though, it can't be that bad...I plan on doing it again something

Ummm lip balm and/or vaseline for an episiotomy (which due to the reaction from my previously recanted statement I will absolutely not discuss ).......no thank you.

BUT definitely, and I do mean DEFINITELY bring lip balm/chapstick...your lips will NEED it during/after labor. I wonder why that is...

And I had a hand pump too, I think it's a freebie at the hospital...which is the only place I used it. I liked the Medela double pump, with the hands free bra thingy :yay:

The hospital does still give you a freebie pump kit (Medela). It has all the pieces in it for a hand pump, or you can use it to outfit one of the Medela electric pumps. Hospital also rents electric pumps if you aren't willing to spend the money to purchase your own or your insurance doesn't cover it. (If you have the federal BCBS they do cover them starting this year!)

Did anyone actually read any magazines or books or any "entertainment" stuff like that while they were there. I guess I could always put some on my phone for just in case and then they wouldn't take up any extra room.

Did anyone listen to music? I-pod and tiny speakers wouldn't take up much room. Plus I keep telling hubby I am going to give birth to the Footloose soundtrack.

Did anyone bring snacks and actually eat them... even if YOU didn't eat them, but hubby or whoever did.

I think we will bring a pillow and blanket for hubby for spending the night. But they can stay in the car until he needs them. The husband beds look like they are made for midgets. haha.

I don't know how it could hook up to the electric pump  and I'd heard you can rent them but if you plan on pumping for awhile or if you're planning on having another child, to me, it's worth buying one.

I read magazines and did crossword puzzles, mostly at night when company would leave and hubby and I were sitting quietly watching our little guy and whatever we could find on TV.

LOL @ Footloose, hilarous! No, I didn't listen to any music.

YES! The hospital's really good about feeding you, you'll be breastfeeding (maybe?) so you'll need to eat and stay hydrated BUT I'm so glad I had snacks...not sure why, but grapes were my favorite thing to munch on while we were there :yay:

We had a little pillow and blanket for hubby too :yay: Poor guy, you could tell he wasn't comfortable but he didn't complain or anything...especially after seeing what happened in the L&D room :lmao:

not impressed
Love those couches @ St Mary's. So comfortable :O)

I'll have to compare it to the ones here this summer. St Mary's was actually a good experience so we'll see how this time goes.
