How many bags to the hospital?

my biggest "gee I wish I'd remembered to pack that" was shampoo and conditioner. after several hours of labor a shower was very much necessary but my long fine hair did not respond well to baby shampoo!

I don't know how it could hook up to the electric pump  and I'd heard you can rent them but if you plan on pumping for awhile or if you're planning on having another child, to me, it's worth buying one.

The kit they gave me had the tubing, some bottles and the breast cone things that all connect into the regular Medela pumps. It also came with the hand pump portion that attaches into the breast cone thingie.

Did you really use your boppy at the hospital? I read that on some lists, but wasn't sure if I'd really use it.

That actually might be helpful! Positioning can sometimes be tricksy, especially when you're first starting out. I had to hunch forward quite a bit, having a boppy (or some other FIRM pillow) to raise the baby up would probably save your back!

Ohhhhh duh, I couldn't picture what they'd given me but yeah of course it'd fit with the electric medela pump :yay:

Really? I think that'd be a complete waste of space at the hospital :yay:

Have you ever used one? I ended up needing to go out and buy two more because my older kids and the hubby were using them as pillows  Hospital pillows suck so I was so happy I packed mine.

I had my last baby on a Friday evening and Sunday evening (9pm or so) I was discharged. I brought new comfy jammy's for myself, out fit for baby, slipper socks (those were really handy when walking the halls to try and get labor going) list of family & friends phone numbers, snacks for the hubby, car seat, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, make up, hair ties, brush, etc) boppy, out fit to go home in for me and baby...hmm pretty sure that is it.

Well I seem to be the only one lucky enough to have a C-section, they made me stay 4 DAYS...the greatest invention ever are those leg inflation/circulation devices...they felt SO amazing. I had my laptop, cell phone and the TV remote and I was happy. The nursing staff would come and take the baby so I could sleep at night, gave me pain meds and sleepy drugs...that was the best 4 days EVER. :buddies: Cheers to Calvert County Memorial

I didn't have time to need much at the hospital. Both my kids were born late evening/early morning and I was released the next day/same day. I think I packed a change of clothes for me and baby, a brush, toothbrush/toothpaste, and some make-up. I do remember using those mesh panties, huge pads, and ice packs with #1. I was amazed how nice it felt to have an ice pack "down there". Who would have thought that!! With #2, I barely even pushed so after he was born, I didn't even feel like I had just had a baby. I didn't even feel labor and was at work apparently with contractions and about 6cm dialated. Lucky for me, I had a doctor's appointment later that day. Even then, I waited until the next day to go to the hospital because I hadn't set up somebody to watch my older son yet. #2 was three weeks early.

Oh yeah I used the hell out of it, just at home. I don't know, I just felt like when we were in the room there was just A TON of "stuff" already. I guess it certainly could come in handy, maybe next time we'll opt for the boppy instead of the pillow for hubby...he can just use the boppy, like your guys

I was induced, they started Wednesday night with the pitocin....ended up having him Friday evening and we were discharged around 11:30am on Sunday. I agree about the slipper socks instead of regular slippers while walking around to induce labor. I had both and the slippers just felt too big, then again, I was a little swollen soooo yeah lol

...and then you went home

Did anyone actually read any magazines or books or any "entertainment" stuff like that while they were there. I guess I could always put some on my phone for just in case and then they wouldn't take up any extra room.

Did anyone listen to music? I-pod and tiny speakers wouldn't take up much room. Plus I keep telling hubby I am going to give birth to the Footloose soundtrack.

Did anyone bring snacks and actually eat them... even if YOU didn't eat them, but hubby or whoever did.

I think we will bring a pillow and blanket for hubby for spending the night. But they can stay in the car until he needs them. The husband beds look like they are made for midgets. haha.

My labor was over 23 hours and all I did was watch TV and try, I said TRY, to sleep. I had an internal fetal monitor and pitosin drip so I was tethered to the bed w/tubes and wires and couldn't walk during labor. There were no cell phones or iPods back then either. :frown: Talk about being bored! Hubby alternately slept and went to the cafeteria while I lay there sucking on ice chips as my only "nourishment". Longest day of my life.

I didn't take it when I went in to have my daughter. Had a surprise  c-section, so I was in there longer than planned, and therefore nursed for several days without it. Got home and used the Boppy and remember thinking "DAMMIT! Why didn't I have this all week??" So, Boppy was at the top of my list when I had my son. The babies seemed more comfortable when they were Boppy'd too.

Not to mention that when your cup size starts off as G and then increases by 10 times once the milk comes in it takes a feat of strength to hold those puppies up as to not suffocate the babe.... am I right...:high6:

Gotcha, hubby's using the Boppy as his pillow next time to save space

We had the funniest labor/delivery nurse teach a birthing class we went to. She had 4 different children and each labor from meds to no meds, etc was different for her. She said on baby 2 she demanded her husband stop at dunkin donuts on the way to the hospital so she could eat since she knew they wouldn't let her. (I believe this was also the birth that the meds caused her to believe that she was giving birth in Mexico and that all the staff were beautiful senoritas.)

We are hitting Wa Wa on the way and getting a turkey sub. I figured if it comes down to it and I have to have a C-section they can pump my stomach. They never really did anything to me in the hospital except hook me to monitors tell me to stay in bed and then come in when it was time to deliver. I said I might hang out in the parking lot till its time just to have some freedom and maybe a bit of excitement when it is time to deliver.
