How many Democrats are actually on this forum? I'm kind of curious. From the posts I've seen, most of the people in this forum appear to be conservative Republicans. I did some reaserch and found that while St Mary's county voted bush by a 27% margin and Calvert county by a 19% margin, and both Prince Goerge's and Charles counties voted Kerry. (granted the latter by a mere 2%). So, long story short, I was just curious as to the division in this forum.

I'm a Republican and I guess I'm very conservative. The forum I recently resigned from was heavily Democrat - this is a nice change.

Republican, registered as a Dem so I can influence the opposition's ticket by voting in the Dem primaries. :tonguemaybeincheek:

I'm an Independent registered as a Democrat. Over the years I have mellowed my liberal ideals( I have, stop laughing..lol) and do not walk a straight party line. There are too many variables in life to consider. I was raised in Mass. with a family in local town politics.

Is there such thing as a moderate anymore? :ohwell:

I'm a registered Republican (and voted as such), but if I had to break it down I'd call myself a social liberal, economic/foreign policy conservative.

What can I say? I like to keep the money I make, and what I DO have to pay out to the Government I would rather see pumped into our economy than doled out to Lawanawisha and her 14 kids. I think that's probably the case with most of the folks down in Southern Maryland.

Doesn't that go against being a social liberal? Or do you mean social in the Janey way? :lmao:

I'm a Republican, but there are some issues in the platform that I disagree with.

I consider Welfare and the like to fall under the bucket of domestic policy, true---but when I say "social liberal" I mean that I don't give a rat's @zz what Joseph and Charles want to do in their bedroom, as long as I don't have to see them prancing down Main Street in pink tu-tus with rainbow banners. "Social liberal" also implies that I'd rather see Lawanawisha get an abortion (or moreover, mandatory Norplant) than pop out 9 more kids that will inevitably end up as wards of the state.

I am a registered non affliated. I don't like any party enough to belong to one. I look at like a church, you should either accept it as it is or not at all, not pick and choose the parts that you like.

That's why I don't go to church..the all or nothing theory. I am an independent person capable of my own thoughts, feelings and ideals and can combine them as I see fit to make me a happy person.

Democrat here simply...more precisely, a social conservative (no gay marriage, anti-abortion, anti-death penalty, pro-family) and an economic/foreign policy liberal (big fan of government programs, government activism in the economy, supporters of multilaternal interventionism).

I registered as a Democrat when I was 18. In St. Mary's County, you didn't vote if you weren't a Democrat, because the local GOP couldn't field a slate of candidates.

Then, in 2002, sold old fart Democrat named Merv Hampton was crying in his beer, and told the newspapers on election night that St. Mary's County voters hadn't grown up, and their votes proved it. This cat is one of the local party "leaders." Since every candidate that I voted for, WON, I figured I was affiliated with the wrong party.

Today, I'm a Republican, where I belong...

I remember when that happened Oz...I'm sorry that you were driven away from the Democratic Party based on that; I think that some of us Democrats can bring you back if we really tried.

When that geezer kicks the bucket, call me... :ohwell:

However, from a philosophical standpoint, I never was a Democrat. On the local (commissioner) level, I cross parties. (Obviously, since I voted for all 5 Commissioners in office today.) But, with State and Federal offices, the Democrats are in a different world from me.

I am almost your exact opposite:

Pro gay marriage. Pro abortion. Pro death penalty. Anti big government, most especially government activism in the economy (if that means what I interpret it to mean). I'm totally against giving any kind of aid to foreign countries - the only "aid" we should give them is to kick their ass and replace their government with something more citizen-friendly.

I'm a registered Republican and I consider myself a Republican. But I disagree with the party platform on abortion and gay marriage.
