How much do you pay for DAYCARE???????

In my experience, between $500 and $1000 a month per child for up to 50 hours per week. I found cost depends on if it's a daycare center or in-home provider or nanny. $500 or less per month per child at subsidized military daycare centers. $1000/month per child at private daycare center, and about $1300/month flate rate for a nanny for up to four children. I haven't found a difference in prices for infants, just less available caregivers willing to take infants.

I pay $115/week for my little man. He is in an inhome daycare that is liscenced through the state of Maryland. But I pay $80/week for my 4 year old who goes to the same place.

:tantrum

I pay $125....

Prices vary according to county, and location within the county. However, one thing to look at is not just the price, but also the service. Does the provider just dump the kids in front of the TV and then surf the internet and take smoke breaks all day? Or does she play games with them, work on preparing them for school, art projects, etc.? The better providers do the later. Whatever you do, do NOT us an unlicensed provider (for your own protection).
The main problem with finding providers for an infant is that they are only allowed 2 kids under 2 years of age.

:yeahthat: I got a pretty good deal considering the quality of service. Most of you already know that I'm never happy... I'm very pleased with the "quality" of care my children are provided.

Also I would like to add that I am more than happy with my daycare. The lady has taught my 4 year old how to write her name, the alphabet, numbers, ect. Since the weather is getting nicer they will be outside a lot more but she does spend time with the kids in her daycare. There was one previous daycare my 4 year old attended and I WOULD NOT recommend her to anyone. She wanted more days off than she did work.....Not good!!!!!

would anyone be willing to recommend specific centers in the st. mary's county/lexington park area?

Little People Daycare, Jody Payne is the owner. GREAT PLACE. Located in Lexington Park - on Great Mills Road across from Chancellors Run Road and a second facility off of Lexwood Drive.

My granddaughter goes there. Jody actually came to my granddaughters birthday party last summer. And, she rents Nicolet Park (the water part) and Hyper Space occasionally for a "Little People" day out - parents bring them for free. She is awesome!

The employees work with the kids, read to them, play with them, and offer up plenty of hugs!

Call Southern Maryland Child Care Resource Center, 301 290-0040. They will spend time with you on the phone, listening to your needs, and try to match you up with a provider. They will give you advice as to what to look for and a list of names to call.

but please interview them first. all the resource center does is give you a local list of licensed providers. they don't tell you if they are complete dumbarses or if they will take your money and run. trust me. i found out the hard way!

I'm pretty sure the resource center suggests that you visit and interview each provider before making your decision, too.

They have a list of all 'qualified' providers and probably can't identify the 'dumbass' quality. They have to be objective, ya know.

gotcha

talk about qualified: i interviewed one provider. she was nice. her references panned out well. i signed a contract and gave her a deposit. *POOF* she decided not to do daycare anymore. instead she's working at Wal*Mart. wouldn't you think that she'd make better money doing daycare

It seems like it, based on the fees on this thread. Glad I don't have to worry about that any more.

I was a provider more than 15 years ago and didn't get nearly what they are charging now--and I was licensed, too.

It is very stressful, though, so maybe this woman had reached her limit and decided to do something 'out of the house.' I did it when I had preschoolers of my own, but woulnd't want to be doing it now.
