How the heck do you get rid of Capenter Bees???

Our deck is supposed to be pressure treated, but.....we have carpenter bees. I tried to kill them with wasp and hornet spray and either it doesnt work, or their friends are coming back to sting my butt because they are everywhere and they never decrease in numbers... Can anyone suggest ways to get rid of them? TIA

Day Care client parent was an exterminator. He said to put wood putty over the holes at night when the bees are asleep. They suffocate before morning.

I whacked one with a folder yesterday when I got home. Then I felt really bad about it because the bee landed on the deck and was stunned for a few minutes.

our deck has now 8 holes. I've used wasp spray and soaked the holes with them. They back out of the holes and then I spray them again.
Once they are out, fill the holes with wood filler.
Or just fill the hole and they'll die..
