Our deck is supposed to be pressure treated, but.....we have carpenter bees. I tried to kill them with wasp and hornet spray and either it doesnt work, or their friends are coming back to sting my butt because they are everywhere and they never decrease in numbers...:jameo: Can anyone suggest ways to get rid of them? TIA

If you mean the huge bumble looking ones that makes the circular holes, dont worry about being stung, they have no stinger. I know they act aggressive, but its all show, they are harmless.
They also go by "wood borer bee".

The female, who is making the hole (nest) has a stinger.
The male stands guard, but will not hurt you (no stinger).

Goggle Carpenter bees.

:lmao: I know you meant Google, but that's just funny!!! :buddies: We just swat them, squash them, or stomp them. They are really upset with us this year, because everything except the deck is wrapped in vinyl or aluminum.

Oh, and if you happen to have someone who is really good with a "blow gun," they can send a dart into them and nail them to the wood! Probably not something that would get you the first class ticket to Heaven, but very effective and entertaining!!

We used to have them when we lived in our townhouse. We bought this powder (I think it was permethrin), which you used a little squeeze bottle to blow it into the holes. Then you put a cork in the hole. After that we painted it all to seal it in. Sounds a little odd, but it did work, I must say.

Yes. I have to admit I've never been stung by one. I just ignore them and they go on about their business.

It takes a little while to get the holes deep enough to go into but my husband would chaulk each hole with them in it (or not) after awhile they would just give up and go away, they only bothered us the first year after that they don't come back. If my husband wasn't around I would use toothepaste, that worked great also bacause they didn't seem to like the smell.

We have some starting on our deck. D's parents have TONS of them in their shed. I had to go in there the other day for something. It's a little intimidating having what must be 50 carpenter bees hovering around you trying to scare you off. :jameo:

Spray them with brake cleaner, (you can get it at most auto part stores) it melts their wings and they cant fly. I use it on all my bees and wasps.
