humidifier

I've been ashy every winter for years, but this year the suffering of a pooch caused me to engage the services of a humidifier. Unfortunately this one (about the size of a bread maker) was only able to raise the humidity in the house from the high 20s to the high 30s and it runs 24/7. I'm sure it's going to set the house on fire. Anyone have any recommendations?

Run a 2nd humidifier at the opposite end of your living space. If you are worried about degrading the visual aspects of your living room... use a decorative waterfall display. They are made to run 24/7 and humidify as well. If money is no object... I highly recommend a fountain from HERE... I discovered this place on a weekend jaunt in lovely Bucks County, PA. I love my fountain. If you are interested in learning more about the fountains, PM me and I can go into greater detail.

Open the bathroom doors and run HOT Azz showers for 40 minutes twice a day. Ought to save ya a buck or two up front.

I suffer from the worse dry heat nose bleeds in the winter time, not to mention the respiratory ailments. My little girl gets the ashey dry skin. I bought two evaporative humidifiers for the bedrooms and two fountains for my living room. As long as I keep them running when the furnace is really going, I have no problems. Poeple even come in to my house and comment on how the air quality seems better. It costs me about 70 dollars a year to run them all. You will be amazed at how much better you feel after a few days. Hope you feel better soon! (and the pup as well)

Or Let the hot shower run until the tub fills up.

In a couple of months we'll be discussing dehumidifiers.

First of all, you just helped me figure out what to put on the empty side of my hearth - fountain/waterfall will fit perfectly! Thanks!

Secondly, as far as humidifiers go - aren't folks worried to death about mold and mildew? Why would you want a humidifier to add to those worries?

I'm more worried that sand dunes will start forming because it is so arid in my house. I saw a Bedouin in the dining room last night.

I learned from a heating and A/C technician that the correct inside humidity is 25-30%. Sounds like the pooch needs a moisturizing shampoo, and you could add vegetable oil to the dog food, also vitamin E.

It's not much of a concern. I use filters that are treated with Microban and every refill in the water tank gets a dose of Bacteriostat.

The Sahara Desert has an average relative humidity of 25 percent

If the dog is suffering from dry skin, try using an oatmeal based shampoo to help with the problem. If you suffer from dry skin, try adding a bit of baby oil to the bath water (if you take a bath).

I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about the pooch. Vurry itchy.

Have you changed anything with the dog's food or used something else to clean the floors with? This can have an effect on our 4 legged babies.
