Have you changed anything with the dog's food or used something else to clean the floors with? This can have an effect on our 4 legged babies.
When I take my clothes off I can't put them in the hamper because they cling to my body. I'm pretty sure it's the lack of humidity.

:duh: Just seeing if there was something you overlooked that could cause this as well :moon:

With the addition of the humidifier I am right inbetween 35 - 40% in the main living area. Maybe the dog will be more comfortable this time.

He was wrong.
45 to 55% is best. I have 3 humidifiers that I have from my time in Maine. These have over-temp protection, that shuts them down when they run out of water. Room sized ones are not that $$ and they have sensors that turn them off when you reach a predetermined humidity. I only ran them at night and they would run about 8 hours per tank and they would get the humidity to 50% fairly quickly. I never worried about running them all the time.

Bogy, I'd still bet it has a lot to do with her food. What are you feeding her?
This is my long suffering companion's dog, and when at my house they all eat Nutro Natural Choice Senior, a vurry good food. He also gets Foster and Smith fatty acid capsules once a day.

The dog in question has been getting Nutro Max for Seniors and a Vita Cap daily for a while now. The vet said it was Tidewater Crud, and lots of critters down here suffer from it. The dog is a furry neurotic beastie, mostly itching the base of his tail. He was just groomed last week and I had them use a soothing shampoo for it.

I had a Lhasa that developed some mysterious skin malady. He itched, chewed and scratched horribly. Very happy lovable dog otherwise. I tried everything, the omega 3, special foods, shampoos, treatments, screened for mites, fleas, mange everyhting was negative. He ended up losing almost all his hair and being stinky. I still loved him but he was not something pleasing to see. He would get skin infections all the time, was on steroids, it was terrible.

The ex said he ran away while I was deployed. I always was suspect. RIP Alex

Basically, it is a $120 vet visit for them to tell you: "Your dog has itchy skin because you're living in Hampton Roads (Norfolk)" All the pollen and jet fuel and crap in the air here isn't good for puppy's sensitive skin and nature.

We have a large evaportative humidifier. Bought it years ago at Sam's Club. It's about 3'x2'x18", base of unit is water reservoir and it has a removeable water tank, holds about 4 gallons of water total. Takes a LARGE filter and has a fan that pulls air thru the filter. Keep it in the trainsition area between the dining area/living room, and it covers the entire 1st floor.

They have some soothing spray for dogs skin available at most vets offices. Of course I can't think of the name of it but I'll see if I can find out what it is.

You can also use an allergy cream or spray, hydracortisone cream (sp ?) and it will work the same way. I have to put this on my dog sometimes. A lot cheaper than the stuff from the vet's office!!
