You would think ONE rain drop would just about take them out of the air.

It's amazing they can fly with the way it comes down sometimes. They look so cute because their little hairdos are all messed up with the rain.

They do look really cute when their dos are wet.

Okay, I'm drowned..hope you guys enjoyed the pics, although they don't really do the gang justice.

That's incredible! This is the best bird year we've had so far. 17 goslings (sp?), cardinals, finches, Baltimore orioles and the ducks just had 9 ducklings. I know it's crazy late in the season! They have been having a large time in the rain!

I've always wanted to do a pond with ducks and/or geese but sleeping outside to make sure nothing eats them would be a bit much and I don't think I'd be allowed to bring them in at night.

I know what you mean! One of the geese fell the other day and has been limping pretty badly. The others are looking out for him though. R has to remind me all the time not to fool with nature, but it breaks my heart to see one of them hurt. We have a community pond that our house backs up to. About a year ago 5 domestic geese showed up and viola! instant family. They really lucked out with location since they are the recipients of all the extra rolls from the restaurant every day, fish don't mind it either!

OK, I get the sugar part, but is its just sugar water that you use? I gotta do something for the little buggers. They keep coming up to my living room window and fluttering around trying to get in.

I think they've seen the smorgasbord that my dog has made of my house, and are jealous? Dunno. But I know that red syrup that you can by for the hummingbirds is expensive, and is touch and go as to whether or not they'll like it.

Just sugar water, I don't know the mixture Catt uses, tho..She'll post it shortly.

You talk about them peeking in your windows, when the feeders run out, they come to the windows and hover to let us know they need more..

Use a 4:1 mixture. 1/4 cup sugar to 1 cup water. I mix it up in a big jug. I use VERY hot water (tap water). I know the jug uses about 2 1/2 cups of sugar and then I fill the jug with water. I put all the sugar in and then fill it half way with the hot water. Put the top on and shake. I let it sit for a bit and then fill the rest of the way with cold water. I don't use food coloring and from what I've read, you really shouldn't.

I used to have squirrles that would do that when I was a kid. They'd come up on the porch and stand on the back of the loungers to look in the window while we were eating dinner, waiting for us to bring them Oreos.

What do you use to keep the ants out of the feeders?

 I'll try it. Though, if they were watching what Daisy ate the other day, they may have been discouraged.

They actually sell these little thingys that you hook in between the hook and the feeder. They work great. :yay: (I got mine at Wentworths)

What now pray tell...

Well since you asked, she ate a roll of toilet paper, a bar of soap, a pack of condoms (3 I think) and apparently that gave her a bit if indigestion cuz she ate another bottle of Tums too. Then I think she tried to hide the evidence left on her breath cuz she started on a new tube of toothpaste too. She got under the sink in the bathroom.

But, she did eat all this in the livingroom, in plain view of the Hummingbirds. She's such a tease.
