:roflmao: Good thing you just shampooed those carpets!

Between Giker and the dog, it was a wasted effort I think, though, even with the new stains, they STILL look MUCH better than they did before.

Well, I set the new feeder up with the mixture prescribed above prior to me leaving for my weekend in VA, and I came back to see that the hummingbirds are already taking advantage of the feeder.

The little chits are not shy. I was standing out there right at the feeder making sure the ants had not gotten to it yet, and the lil sucker buzzed my head. I almost fell off my railing.

Happy to see they're using it though. So far, I've only seen one, and he seems to guard it. I see him sitting in the tree, not far from the feeder. Hopefully soon, they'll be more. I'll get some pictures soon.

Thanks Catt and Otter! :yay:

Great! You're getting them at the end of the season but that's good. Don't worry about taking it down at any certain time either. It's not true that they won't fly south if the feeders are up. They KNOW when to head south and if you keep it up a few weeks after you see your last one, you'll catch the ones that were further north and the stragglers that may have been hurt or sick.

You're right! They aren't shy. When I'm filling the feeders, they will buzz my head.

I was reading last night about making a homemade ant moat out of a top of a plastic spray can, like Pam or something that isn't toxic. Run a wire hanger or piece of wire through the top and then use some sort of plastic epoxy to close the hole around the wire. Then you can fill it with water or even vegetable oil but be sure it cannot get on the birds' wings. You hang the hanger with the top on the hook then attach the feeder hook to the bottom of the hanger with the lid. Follow?

That sounds like a good plan too. I had ants with in a couple of days. But I gave the tree branch a couple of real good shots of motorcycle chain lube, and the ants haven't been back since, even after that lube has been washed away. I'll get to work on your suggestion though.

I do have about 4 hummingbirds out there now, but I got one of them, that does guard that feeder. He keeps chasing the other hummingbirds away from it.

I have two Hummingbirds that are grey and White, one green and white one, and one with some yellow. They're so funny to watch. I can't get pictures, cuz they're not there long before the "guard" chases them away.
