Hummm what do you think is the difference?

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Like Hurricane Katrina evacuees two years earlier in New Orleans, thousands of people rousted by natural disaster fled to the NFL stadium here, waiting out the calamity and worrying about their homes.

The similarities ended there, as an almost festive atmosphere reigned at Qualcomm Stadium.

Bands belted out rock 'n' roll, lavish buffets served gourmet entrees, and massage therapists helped relieve the stress for those forced to flee their homes because of wildfires.

"The people are happy. They have everything here," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared Monday night after his second Qualcomm tour.

Probably the fact that these are million dollar homes and the people have kick a$$ insurance to cover it. When you have plenty in the bank, a fire is just a minor setback?

Someone on another board I post on said that too. I fail to see how ones lack of insurance would cause you to totally trash a stadium.

I don't know that's why I am asking. But I don't see how not having insurance would cause folks to totally trash the superdome.

My mistake then...it just came across that you had another reason in mind and were hoping that others shared your point of view. My apologies.

Since it is California, maybe not all the smoke was in the hills? And that led to much happier crowd?
Maybe the Austrian Governor and his staff were a tad bit better organized than hiz Honor down in the Big Easy?

i would not be surprised if the security of knowing that you will be able to recover were at least part of why thereis a different atmosphere this time around. Part of it is also a level of respect for the needs of others in the same situation that was not shown in new orleans. the actions of many in new orleans seemed to be charcterized by a complete lack of empathy for others.

One of the first things I thought when I heard they were gathering at the stadium, "that should be a good party".:lmao:

My guess is that these are a bunch of fairly well off, most likely educated people that care about themselves and their environs. Therefore they are not going to trash the place and blame the government for not doing enough. Also they have power and water so the place has to smell better.

I will suggest that the majority of the blockheads in the Superdome were criminals to begin with - it was New Orleans, after all.

You're not going to see a lot of upscale types looting and rioting because they're used to taking care of themselves, unlike the welfare losers that invaded the Superdome.

Its lack of education, morals, disregard for others.

But, wait. There's still time!

I have to agree with the majority here. Better preparation done at the local and state level, better behaved people being housed. Honestly, if they were so rich, they'd be flying out of there, or staying in a fine home/hotel for the extra money. There are a lot of middle and lower financial class people living there, too. The caring and ability of the local and state authorities seems to make a difference.

if you will
There are probably other differences that aren't getting the San Diego evacuees riled up like New Orleans evacuees. No flood waters, no winds ripping the roof off, no power outages. And maybe the number of evacuees are less in San Diego.

But I agree it is fun to still poke fun at the great unwashed in New Orleans. Ah, they're still animals they are! :yahoo:

I'd say in both instances the evacuees are continuing to behave the way they usually do in their own neighborhoods.

Why don't you just call them n*ggers and get it over with? Racist.

Stereotyping can be quite accurate in some cases. I'm sure there are plenty of blacks, asians, and no doubts mexicans in this arena. Could the fact that they came from fairly upscale neighborhoods be the difference?
