Couldn't have anything to do with the environmentalists getting in the way of forest management.. or the 'greens' doing everything in their power to stop the forest service, the governemnt and even local homeowners to cut and clear enough timber to prevent this from happening..

Yup... All dozen fires spontaneously combusted at the same time. What are the odds?

God I cant wait till they link the Santa Ana winds with global warming. :sarcasm:

What a bunch of idiots. Brush fires in the Southwest have been going on forever. It's just when people build houses in those areas that it impacts humanity.

the Cedar fire was no different than the fires that are going on right now in Cali. All driven by the Santa Ana winds....

I dont remember anyone contributing the fires to global warming back in 2003.

The first year I lived there a fire came right up to the edge of El Cajon. I lived in North Park and ashes were coating everything. That was 1972.

Good grief. These poor people at Quallcomm stadium are so organized it is unbelievably impressive. If you didn't know better, it looks like a county fair.
I'm not going through the thread to see who said: "it is socioeconomic difference" - but it is.
Two entirely different circumstances happening to two entirely different types of victims.
The only things they are sticking in each other are acupuncture needles - gourmet food being served by Marines, unbelievable.
Organization that everybody could admire.
How long before somebody starts asking what's wrong with this picture?

FYI - There are animal evacuation centers open and running with thousands of pet owners being tended to by their pets.

You can thank the local government for being on top of disaster control.

Katrina is a prime example of if you act like trash, you get treated like trash.

:edit:

I honestly think that if the disasters were reversed and Katrina happend after these fires, we would still have the same resulting cluster F@*k in New Orleans.

My take

Governor Schwarzenegger is doing his job and talking to the elected officials of San Diego and Los Angeles. That's a hell of a lot more than Kathleen Blanco ever did.

Very little of what happened during Katrina was Mayor Nagin's fault, and I thought the "Chocolate City" comment was funny, and saw nothing racist about it (there is White Chocolate ).

You've got to remember, there was no power, electricity, running water in New Orleans. Kathleen Blanco blocked any attempt by the Federal Government to go to New Orleans, and did not declare a state of emergency until DAYS AFTER the storm hit. She was pizzed at Nagin because he endorsed an opposing candidate for Louisiana Governor.

I personally think Mrs. Blanco should be brought up on charges for her actions. She put politics in front of human lives. :burning:

Bush deserves some of the blame because of the even slower response in Biloxi, Waveland and the rest of the Gulf Coast.

Nagin deserves some blame for acting like a wild money on the radio instead of a mayor.

As far as California, it has nothing to do with budget. Some of these statements are just so far to the right and so obtuse, I will not take the time to respond to them all.

The idea that they act better because their rich is an idea in itself that should be condemned.

You've got two totally, 100% different situations and you're trying to compare them by saying rich people are better people? What the #### is that supposed to mean?

Race and class have nothing to do with it. The lessons that we took out of Katrina does, however. The fact that governments worked together to help the people of San Diego deserves a lot of praise. But don't believe for one second that anything has to do with race or class. It doesn't.

There's also the fact that the atmosphere in Qualcom Stadium is much better than the Superdome. People were being poured on, winds blowing, no power, no food, no water, absolutely no planning put into the sitaution whatsoever.

While I have much more to say, I just won't say it. So, I'm done here. :howdy:

Even the illegal mexicans are being nice because they know the home construction companies will need them now!!!

Probably the fact that these are million dollar homes and the people have kick a$$ insurance to cover it. When you have plenty in the bank, a fire is just a minor setback?

Hope they raised the dwelling amount on the insurance once their property values went up over the past few years, so that they can rebuild without shelling out alot of money.

Andy, you're making my migraine worse. Animals will be animals, electricity and running water, or not. I mean, I've lost power at my house for a few days too, I didn't rape and pillage my neighbor because of it.

Take away the creature comforts from those in CA, and they'd still act just like they are- civilized.

I agree with you about the "chocolate city" comment but I'm talking logistics here not politics. The situations at the two stadiums are entirely different. If San Diego was in the middle of a cat 4 or 5 storm, folks wouldn't be setting up tents in the parking lot and eating at resturuants on the club level. We're not gonna be seeing any CA wild fire refugees showing up in our area. Again, it apples and oranges.

Chocolate City!!! <img src="http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b31/chernmax/Funny%20pictures/NagginWonka1.gif"></a>

Are you suggesting 100% of the ONE MILLION evacuees in CA are RICH!?? Are the 4 illegal aliens arrested at Qualcom, were they RICH!?? I doubt it.

I also doubt that more than 5% of the people at Qualcom could be classified as rich.. I mean if I were rich and got evacuated, I'd make it an excuse to go on a vacation somewher OTHER than California, and damn sure wouldn't be sleeping on a cot in a tent or on the floor of a Sports Stadium.. JUST like the RICH in New Orleans weren't at the Super Dome...

The people at the stadium (I would guess) are your working middle class and the poorer of the population.. those that don't have a summer home at Tahoe, or the Berkshires.. You know, the people that had NOWHERE else to go, and couldn't afford to take a drop of the hat cruise out of Miami.

I don't think it's race (both races are represented in both places) and it's not class or stature, but the local environment of the dependent and the independent.

It'll be interesting to see how fast they kick everyone outta there before Sunday's game unless the Chargers move the game.

Of course, personally.. if were King.. I'd take every able bodied person in that One Million, and give them a shovel and put them "on the line"...

That's a LOT of prospective firefighters they have lounging around.
