So, my brother in the Keys is hunkered down waiting for TS force winds - but my 3 nieces are all in the Lakeland, FL area -)just east of Tampa about an hour if that) are preparing for worst case scenarios. Schools are closed for students, being opened as shelters. (common) My 2 younger nieces live in a townhouse and a second floor apt. They both have family on their husbands' sides locally for assistance if needed.
My eldest niece has not closed on her Lakeland house, yet. But her partner has a house in Orlando. That's great if she had to evacuate, but J is a Regional Director for a National restaurant chain in the Lakeland and Tampa region. She overseas 10 restaurants' managers,(and therefore, their employees, etc) Her company truly looks out for it's employees. She told me today that she's in the thick of storm prepping and organizing the plans for restaurant closures, and to help employees prep, etc.
It goes like this when storms come up - and they prep for it as best as they can. None of them live right on the coast line, they're further inland, but there are a couple of lakes nearby and that can cause a lot of issues when you live close to them. (and 2 of my nieces do. My son and I just stayed at an Airbnb about 5 minutes from from 1 of them).
