I Hate Viruses!!!!!

I have NO (Zilch, zippo, none, notta) virus protection and my computer hasn't recieved one virus since I built this thing in February. :diva:

If I were that stupid, I wouldn't admit it in public, much less brag about it. No protection, and it's connected to the outside world. Wow.

it is harder to compromise a Mac / Unix Computer, like you can a PC by just surfing the wrong web site computer turned into a spam spewing zombie ...........

Unix uses a different architecture for user control, software does not get installed without user acknowledgment ie permission ........ as readily as Windows PC's

Point taken!

You are right, unless the underlying architecture has been compromised and changed - i.e.: Root Kit on any OS, someone changing permissions, an installer that does not clean up very well and leaves permissions open... I have been seeing exploits on the MAC new OS coming in more and more frequently, it is a matter of time before it is 1 for 1 (MAC and PC) exploit.

Right now the majority of the spyware, viruses, exploits have been on the Windoze O/S's because that is the bulk of them out there... plus, I seem to think the people writing them "grew-up" on PC's... PC's have long been known to be a "tinkering" type of system... and these "tinker-ers" are the ones doing the exploits! Like I said above, it is a matter of time before the hackers/spyware authors find the crease...

I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY HATE VIRUSES!!! :tantrum

I just reformatted my computer not once, not twice but THREE friggen times in the past friggen MONTH!!!! :tantrum

I thought Windows Vista was supposed to be SAFER!?!?!?! HA!!! I say to that!!!! There is NOTHING safe about this POS operating system!!!!

Rant over, that is all, carry on!

:bawl:

Buy a Mac.

30 Seconds? You need to run this then MacJanitor

This is caused because it is built on Unix and Unix is meant to be left on all the time. Most people turn off their MAC at night so it doesn't get to do its maintenance.

Mine stays on for weeks. The longer a Mac runs, the better it is. Windows machines are the opposite.

I don't need virus protection.

I know how to delete viruses if I were to get one.

Plus, anti-virus compromises performance (and a lot of it with Norton) in which I need when play....er...um....writing papers.

Besides, what's spyware going to do to my PC. Someone's going to hack into it and play pong? I don't keep personal info or reciepts or bank information on my hard drive, I'm not that dumb. Plus, with a dual disk system, it makes it much harder for a virus to attack the MBR.

Add in computer imaging and two hardware layer firewalls, and the fact that I've completely blocked my machine from being able to get an outside IP address. It only registers a local IP address. I'm plenty secure. :yay:

No anti-virus is totally secure.

I have posted this several times. Make a limited power user and surf and read email as that user. Only log in as an Administrator user when you want to install software or configure the system.

If you are logged in as a limited user and stumble on a trojan or virus, your user will not have rights to install software or modify the registry. The virus writers depend on the fact that most Windows users operate normally as an user with Administrator powers.

It is also a good idea to rename the Administrator account to some other name and use the classic login instead of the one that gives you an icon to select. This is especially true if you have a routable IP on your system and don't go through a NATted firewall router or firewall appliance.

Every level of security you can add helps. I suggest using a firewall router even if you only have one computer hooked up.
