My treadmill motor cuts off occasionally. I'm afraid to use it now at the risk of injurying myself. How does one go about finding a treadmill repairman?
Try licking the plug before you put it in.Techno Kat said:My treadmill motor cuts off occasionally. I'm afraid to use it now at the risk of injurying myself. How does one go about finding a treadmill repairman?

FT, that might make things easier on you, too.

This post is hot...Pete said:It could possibly be the overtemp switch that is mounted just inside the motor casing. It is a small thermal switch shaped like a small flat square with 2 wires coming from it. It could also be the switch is fine but the motor is getting too hot, but for it to get hot enough to trip the motor off you would smell something burning or hot smelling.
Testing the thermal switch would be easy with a meter. You could also test the motor control board with a meter by monitoring the voltage to the motor and seeing if it drops suddenly.
The motor control board will cost you about $150, the thermal switch about $20. I doubt the motor itself is bad because they are crude simple motors and if it failed it would not run at all. It may need new brushes which are easy to replace and cost about $20 a set but be sure not to lose the springs when you disassemble the motor.
Does it have any other specific symptoms? It works fine and just shuts off?
I am not a treadmill repairman but I did stay at a Holiday in Express last night.
