I Was Scammed!

Everyone please be aware! I have bought alot of things off of ebay in the past. I had recently bid on some redskin/ cowboy tickets and lost. So I had given up. Then I received an email from someone claiming to be through ebay square trade wanting to sell me his tickets. They were great seats at a great price (should have been a red flag). Through this person all I had to do is wire the money through western union to ebay square trade and I would get my tickets. Needless to say, I haven't received them and after some research on ebay I found a great deal of others who were scammed. I only lost $250 but lots of others lost way more. I urge you be careful when buying anything, all of the emails, paperwork, etc looks legit, but if I had taken the time to do a little research I would still have my money. I have reported the individuals to the proper authorities but it won't get me my money back. Guess I will be rooting for the redskins at home this sunday.

Thanks for sharing, SD... you make a good point. A little research can go a long way.

There's been a lot of reports on EBay scamming the past few months.

Omigod! that's why I just chalk off my loss of 250 it could have been much worse. my only regret is my dad's disappointment of not going to the game. Thanks for sharing your story.

I will never buy another thing off E-Bay. My girlfriend was scammed as well She lost $2500.00!! :yikes:
Buying from E-Bay is generally safe, it's the nuts that fall for the "call back' scams that get taken to the cleaners..

Let me guess, they provided the links to make it easy for you and you didn't log onto E Bay.com yourself to make the deal.

If you recieve any thing you think might be a scam on E Bay, forward it to spoof@ebay.com

One guy 3 years back tried to rip me off for $150, I used all his contact info and his mailing address and call his local Sheiff and filed a complaint, officers went to his home and retrieved my money and the officer at the station was nice enough to personally mail it to me. Other than that, I have had 100's of successful transactions on Ebay...

I don’t want to sound callus but you should have known better. eBay has made it known to members about this and other similar scams. PayPal is highly encouraged to be used for eBay transactions. It is one of the most secure methods of paying for auctions.

Outside of that, the mere fact that someone would want me to wire money to them is just absurd. Unless they are a known creditor or something – why the heck would I just blindly give money to an unknown person?? This is not much different than the emails that circulate from Nigera where this business person wants you to give them a bank account number so they can deposit an inheritance which was left to you from a distant relative.

All you can do for now is to report the person to eBay and let them investigate the matter. Next time you are in the mood for wire transfers, please send $250 to me….my pockets are empty…

I get those dang "call back" emails all of the time and always forward mine to the eBay spoof patrol. They look real enough but you should never, EVER respond to an unsolicited email. There is plenty of education on the subject, people just need to do their homework before they go and spend that kind of money.

BREAKING NEWS: Terror Alert in Washington DC:

Washington, (DC)-- Washington Redskins football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Joe Gibbs immediately
suspended practice and called the police and federal investigators.

After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the
white substance unknown to players was the GOAL LINE.

Practice resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to
encounter the substance again this season.

I recently bid on tickets to an Ohio State game. I got about 10 of these "call back"/"second chance" offers, none of which were legitimate. Ebay suggested changing my password, which I did. The emails seemed to have stopped for now.

Absolutely. :yay: I've bought quite a few items off of eBay using PayPal and have NEVER had a problem. It's the only way to go IMHO.

Don't I know this. :ohwell: Anyway, having to wire money is an almost sure sign the deal is not on the up-and-up. "Caveat emptor" - let the buyer beware.

While I was on vacation last month, I got an email from ebay. Someone had hacked into my account and had listed (tried to sell) like 15 Gucci purses.
