I'm worried that my dog will not eat expensive dog food, LOL WTF

It will eat when it gets hungry, Mods please move this thread over to Real World Problems.
So, do you feed the dog junk and it lives happy to maybe 12-13, or do you feed it well and it lives to 15-17, the last years really old, low quality of life, and needy?

She has a vet appt next week and I don't want to have to lie to him when he asks what I've been feeding her.

I burst into tears of frustration last night, so today she decided to give me a break and eat two meals of Fresh Pet mixed with rice and chicken.
I'd just worry about her being healthy, her not eating probably is harder on you than it is her.

Got a friend with a lard-ass dalmatian, it gives everyone the eyes when it sees food so everyone gives her food and she weighs 90 lbs.

I've had good results with Dr Marty's, but it's expensive enough to look into getting a home freeze dryer.

Look, it may not be earth shattering but it's important to me. Therefore it's a catastrophe.

I just caved and made her some chicken, rice, and carrots and she's wolfing it down. And I wouldn't mind cooking for her but I don't want her to be malnourished, and I also don't want her to be such a freaking pain in the ass. Other dogs eat dog chow, but DianaRoss doesn't like it. :drama:
I was going to suggest making her some food. Does she like eggs?

The vet says to stop obsessing about Gretel's feeding habits and get a life :smack: He says she's perfectly healthy, great weight, appropriate energy, everything looks good, and it's not unheard of for a dog to not be all that interested in food. Said if she goes more than a couple days without eating and is lethargic, clearly not feeling 100% or her poops are weird, then I should worry BUT NOT UNTIL! :smack:

He says Purina One with some chickie or veg or cheese mixed in is fine, skip the fancy chow unless I just like throwing money away.

I thank you all for tolerating my drama :jameo:

Glad to hear this, and I think it is excellent advice.

Mothers, doggy moms too, seem to associate eating with happiness and can't imagine otherwise. Heck, my own mom wants to feed me every time she sees me.

Update:

It's too soon to tell but the key appears to be that she doesn't like chunky food. I moistened her chow and ran it through the food processor so it was chopped up and she pigged it right down. For the last 3 days she's had a two good meals a day, unadulterated with toppings, which is unheard of.

Yet she won't eat wet food - won't even try it.

I hope this is the end of the feeding wars.

I am so very blessed
I totally coat my dogs' dry kibble with a healthy dose of plain yogurt, and they gobble that shiat up like there is no tomorrow.

But upon thinking, these dogs eat anything and everything.... a stick of butter, pinecones, stale popcorn, a dead goat's head found in the woods, cucumbers, dry dog food, wet dog food....EVERYTHING.

A whole goats head. :shocking:

That makes Nicholai picking up a crunchy avian street pizza to take home seem tame.
