Im looking for a tiny puppy

I don't agree with pets for Christmas, not that you want to hear that.

I may know of a pom available, but you need to tell me and other potential sellers, what you are looking for in a dog.

Small isn't the only factor in a dog. You only listed 3 small breeds Yorkie, Chi, and Pom. All are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT in PERSONALITY.

 For the most part Yorkies are terriers and as such have many terrier traits in a small package. One of my poms was grabbed by a yorkie in the group ring at a dog show.
 Chi's are generally more reserved and tend to like more of a low key environment.
 Poms are extroverts and like to be involved with it all. They don't know they are small and can be easily hurt because of this lack of fear.

A good breeder or rescue will only place a dog with the correct family for that dog. I wouldn't put a shy dog with a family with 3 active young kids. Same as I wouldn't put a excited in our face dog with a family that wanted a lap dog.

You said small, but that is relative what size are you really looking for? 5, 10, 15 lbs?
You said you have a budget, what kind of budget? $5, $50, $500?
You said puppy? What is the max age you are willing to except? 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, months?

Also telling us about you and your family, your lifestyle etc is important, we want people to be happy with a dog, and not have it mis-treated because it wasn't a good fit.

I do rescue and this year I had a 40+ man from a family of 4 turn over (2) 3 month old pom puppies to me, because his family couldn't handle all the work that they are. He didn't think it thru. His kids said dad we want the puppies and he got them. Only in 4 weeks to turn them over to rescue because they were a bad fit for them. This family had, been dog owners in the past, but poms weren't a good fit. It was hard on the whole family. I felt for them and the dogs. I am not saying you are the same, but this is why we ask so many questions.

Rescues charge 200-300 for adoption fees, breeders are generally higher or at the high end of rescue prices. Also you need to be ready to pay for additional costs on puppies like shots, neuter or spay, and general yearly health costs. I am sure you have thought of all of this, but your msg doesn't come across to that effect.

I wish you luck on your task to find a furry family member that is perfect for you all for life, not just Christmas.

Thank you for that very informative post.

:yeahthat: I learned something on there too :yay: "Chi's are generally more reserved and tend to like more of a low key environment." My dog Peanut is part Chi ... that fits her to a tee... no loud noises, no sudden outbursts, nothing but peace and quiet ... oh yeah and deathly afraid of flyswatters

I have found that small dogs don't always like childern. They have major attitude problems and rule the roost.

Also having a dog does cost money. You have to feed them, take them to the vet, some need to be groomed (like a pom), toys, crates, supplies and so on. It is just like buying a horse...buying the horse is the cheap part, it is the care afterwards that is a killer.

you could always give pet collars , beds , toys ect... and then let your son go with you to find a puppy. it is a good idea to see how the puppy interacts with your son...not all personalities mesh ...plus think of his excitment when he gets to choose his own puppy. Good luck on your search !!

first i would like to say sorry vince i didnt realize your signature was about guns.

and as to some of the responses i know the issues about christmas that people were talking about i dont have a real tree or plants nor do i have tinsel on my tree.

I know what it is cost wise to take care of a pet basically the same as a child and that is how animals get treated in my house like they are a family member not a pet.

And as to cowgirl's response yes i said a small dog i want a puppy that is going to stay small a max of 15 lbs i have 3 boys im basically a stay at home mom i work abt 20hrs a week and when im at work dad is at home so the dog would always be around human contact execpt for maybe if we run to the store or something like that. my son fell in love with three dogs and that was a chi, pom and yorkie.. but i dont think he really cares what kind of puppy i get just as long as he has a puppy.

I know what it takes in caring for certain animals growing up we had dogs ranging from as small as a 5 lbs pom to as big as a great dane growing up my family would take in animals all the time til we could find them a good home so really its not just my son who wants a puppy i do too and im open to diff breeds just as they are a small size breed yes i said im on a budget and thats because im not the type who will just spend to spend i remember growing up as a kid you could get a puppy for free that you could go to a store and people would be giving them away out of boxes. i told my kids that they only have a certain amount of money for christmas and my oldest son is already over his limit so if i have to buy a dog the most i want to spend is 200 for one. and no one ever said that it had to be a pure bred with papers or anything im not expecting a had out i just dont want to be taken to the bank.

When I brought my second rat terrier home, she slept in my jacket pocket all the way home. The most she ever weighed was 7-10 lbs. Had two of them. One died at 15 years and the other around 20. Great little watch dogs. Anyone comes to the door they let you know before the knock or the doorbell.

im not looking for someone to tell me that right now is not the right time to get a puppy nor am i looking for someone to tell me about guns.

what im looking for is someone out there who is in my state or even pa,de, or wv that is close to baltimore if not in maryland that has a puppy or even may be 2 puppies that are giving them away or at a decent price my kids have been asking for quite some time for a puppy and did not live somewhere were we could have a dog now we do and i want to be able to get my kids the puppy that they have been begging for.

May I suggest a broom; you can use it to fly around and find Toto.

I would honestly wait until after Christmas and then check the local shelters and rescue groups. I know of several shelters here that get little dogs all the time. If you have children a good small dog might be a bichon or bichon mix. I have one. He is about 15 pounds and he is really sturdy and loves to play and rough house. They are great dogs for kids because they are not extremely delicate. Just a few thoughts though. Good Luck on your dog search.
