except talking on the phone has been illegal (without a "hands free" device that is).
But yes, I would agree there will probably be a lot of tickets in court (for a $500 fine most will challenge). It wil the defendants word (criminal tisk tisk) against the officer. You will have to prove you are innocent. I mean isn't that the precept our legal system is based on, guilty until proven innocent?

Oh and handsfree means you dont have to scream for them to hear you. I was next to a car the other day and I could hear every word the person was saying. It was pouring down down rain and obviously the windows were up and radio was on. LaQuineesha was screaming so loud the people in the cars around her were laughing. She was totally oblivious to all of this and everytime someone pulled next to her we would mock her - an old man next to her in a blue ford was even making fun of her and shaking his head. It was hysterical - DC tags at that so whomever had to follow her down RT 210 was in for an earful of conversation.

Why not come up with a way to put your phone in "I'm driving now" mode which would alert the caller that you just can't get their message at that moment but you will get back to them...and that if they want you safe and the others on the road, they can WAIT for you to call back.

They have that already. It's called, "don't answer the phone." Phone call then goes to voice mail and you can call them back when you get to your destination.

I just wish they would outlaw ANYTHING that could be a distraction! Do you know how dangerous passengers are? Or the radio? Eating a nutragrain bar? Talk radio is awful because people are listening to talking instead of paying attention to the road! and OMG...SCENERY? That's gotta go too. What if someone looked out the window at a beautiful view? How fricken distracting is that? Those blinky signs they put on the side of the road that warn of bridge work, groundhogs outside of base, screaming brats, emotional upheaval, a rough day, bumper stickers, that squirel that just ran across the road halfway and then ran back, the smell coming from the texas steakhouse, a floating plastic bag, internal practice dialogue for a speech, books on tape, flashy cars, boards that show gas prices, road signs, advertisements outside of businesses, having your pet in the car, towing a trailor, towing a boat, wearing an itchy sweater, having a bug bite, having a sore back, having a headache, being on the way to somewhere scary like the drs office, being excited/looking foward to something, thinking about how you are going to tell your kid they have shots this afternoon, trying to plan a way everyne gets to their activities on time, fuzzy dice....

It all MUST go. Because we cannot expect people to drive safely with all of those distractions! I, for one, am GLAD they are putting their foot down for everyone's safety.

that's not new, see that all the time. Now if she were texting, holding the dog, breast feeding the baby, putting on lipstick and reading the paper, that would be new.
