I think many are going to continue texting, and very few will get ticketed.

I think this because:
I was at a stop light today on 235 and Pegg. A LEO had pulled over someone, they were having business in the far left turn lane. I'm in the middle lane. A women pulls up on my left, between me and the LEO, just chatting away on her cell. Another LEO pulls up behind he first one, gets out, starts walking towards the first LEO, sees the woman chatting away, looks straight at her, she ignores him, and he turns away.

No words, no warnings. The light turns green and she continues forward still chatting away.

That's right. For this to me any more than an Obama, or, token, plan, it presumes that officers have been sitting around terribly under utilized, just waiting for a mission.

What'rthey gonna do? Stop issuing speeding tickets to focus on this???

For $500 I would think so.

Gonna have to stop using my iPad while driving, I guess. I don't just text, full blown web surfing is the way to go for me. Cell phone screens are WAY too small. I wonder if i can get a dash mount?

eh - $70 is chump change - $110 is a couple o happy meals. Won't slow me down. But this I also disagree with -
The law does not apply to texting 9-1-1 or using a global positioning system.

These are just as or more dangerous, IMO, than the texting and talking, and becoming more prevalent....this will be the next bandwagon to jump on.

911 could be very important. They should not discourage that. GPS is usually set before you leave home. Lets face it though. Anything that takes your mind off the road is not good. Use discretion and you'll be cool. Don't do anything but drive when you are in heavy traffic.

I have an app called Drivesafe.ly and it reads me my texts, then allows me to record a response, which gets translated (for the most part ) to text for the recipient. Completely hands-free. So I wonder if that's illegal, too? I should have asked when I was at the meeting.

And it's FREE

Then you get a fine for having something on the windshield that blocks your line of vision.

The free version reads your texts to you. Pay the fee, like $15 a year or something, and you can reply.

It will be a primary enforcement offense to text while driving. This includes reading and sending texts, even when you are stopped at a red light.

I thought that law went into effect last year, but apparently that was just sending and not reading.

So now we get to kick it old school. Chill out and realize that whatever you feel you must communicate right that very second isn't really that crucial.

:yay:

The next thing you know, they'll make it illegal to drive with your knees while eating tacos, and watching Maury on the tube.

I would love to see them make talking on your cell phone without a hands free device a primary enforcement offense also. Next they can include ticketing those idiots that wear their ear buds and headphones while driving. That's a violation in MD and VA also. These are big pet peeves with me.

Will have to check that App out. Now here is an idea, while people are in church, they "silence" their phones, while people are watching a movie, they "silence" their phones. Why not come up with a way to put your phone in "I'm driving now" mode which would alert the caller that you just can't get their message at that moment but you will get back to them...and that if they want you safe and the others on the road, they can WAIT for you to call back.

I hope they will enforce it.

Driving back from Annapolis last weekend I was behind a car constantly changing speeds and driving onto the shoulder. I kept my distance and then some. They finally turned off once I got on Rte4 (Huntingtown)

I have no idea what they had going on. I did know he/she was not a safe driver. At least they drifted to the right and not into oncoming traffic.
