A bill that would allow illegal aliens to pay the same tuition rates as Maryland citizens is scheduled for a 1 p.m. hearing at the Maryland General Assembly tomorrow.

House Bill 1236, which is sponsored by 41 state delegates, would likely be signed into law by Democrat Gov. Martin O'Malley, if it gets out of the powerful House Ways & Means Committee.

The link below includes the names and email addresses of the members of the House & Ways Committee.

Please e-mail them and let them know how you feel about this bill!

It affects all Maryland public colleges. Should illegals get better rates than out-of-state citizens?

I can't believe this is even an option...like...how did this bill even get this far??

Does somebody need "ILLEGAL" defined for them? These people don't even deserve schooling PERIOD...much less do they deserve it at a discounted rate.

Yes, there are a limited amount of slots. If they fill them, then your son or daughter may not be able to attend.

My parents say if I want a higher education, I can pay for it.

Well, thanks to Martin Owe'Malley, the tuition rates are rising and the cost for classes are going up the arse end. Of course, I am not a minority and thus don't qualify for half the scholarships they have now.

Pisses me off everytime seeing some of these kids in college who can't find the U.S. on a world map but they're getting a full-paid scholarship to play basketball.

I love how the system works. :rolleyes:

When will the White American become the minority so we can afford to go to college?? By that time, the knuckleheads on the hill will have laws in place to grandfather in people who used to be minorities.

What if their "compromise" to the plan was to include a "but will not qualify for state financial aid" clause? I think they are already excluded from Fed aid, in fact you have to fill out a Fed form before you can apply for any other need-based aid.

Honestly...I don't give a rat's ass if the illegals have to pay double what I pay...the fact is that they are illegal and are taking a slot in the school where a legal, hardworking CITIZEN could be getting further education. :yay:

But they'd have to get in to the college first, which makes me wonder how much of an issue this really is (aside from the handful hauled across the border by their parents as young kids and somehow managed to swing the grades and a HS diploma).

Any numbers out there on how many illegals are attending US colleges?

After all available slots are filled, if any are left, let the illegals attend, after they pay full tuition like any other out-of-state citizen or legal alien. Then ship them home the first day of class, let them come in legally and finish their education.

I'm just wondering if this is a real issue or just another "issue" to distract voters from more important things.

I'm thinking the numbers of illegal immigrants attending college is too low to cause much concern (?).

So if we get a college student from our neighbor state Virginia, we charge them full rate while charging a person who isnt American who doesnt belong in this country a discount.

That makes as much sense as not calling John McCain a natural American because he was born in Panama, while his father was stationed in the Zone, and yet calling Julio a natural American because his illegal immigrant mother snuck across the border one night slipped into an emergency and dropped him as an anchor baby.
